A Great Defense of Christianity

'The Reason For God' is a powerful, well-written defense of the Christian faith. It could well be destined to be considered a classic similar to 'Mere Christianity' by C.S. Lewis. I think it is even better than Lewis' classic in many ways as it is a much easier read.

The author does not try to make this into some dry academic tome; it is accessible to all.

This book is divided into two parts. The first section addresses seven of the major objections to Christianity:

1. There Can't Be Just One True Religion
2. How Could a Good God Allow Suffering
3. Christianity Is a Straitjacket
4. The Church Is Responsible for So Much Injustice
5. How Can a Loving God Send People to Hell?
6. Science Has Disproved Christianity
7. You Can't Take The Bible Literally

The author does a superb job of addressing the questions/complaints above. He gives lots of food for thought.

The second half of the book deals with 'the reasons for faith':

1. The Clues of God
2. The Knowledge of God
3. The Problem of Sin
4. Religion and the Gospel
5. The (True) Story of the Cross
6. The Reality of the Ressurrection
7. The Dance of God

Again, this part is terrific. Keller has a great deal of experience in conversing with skeptics. He pastors a church in the heart of skepticism - Manhattan.

Not only does he deal with the objections that people have, he does it in a loving way. He is not confrontational or harsh in the least.

This is a book that I plan to read again ... soon. It is one that I highly recommend for both Christians and doubters.

A reason for God

Interesting book in that it harkens back to the "old" time religion of my youth when mainline churches actually believed in God. I was able to get my men's church study group to study this book. Whether you agree or not, it certainly deserves a reading.
