I took this book with me when I got married!

This is the only children's novel I have, and I've read it at least a dozen times (and the last time wasn't that long ago). I plan on pulling it out and reading it every so often for as long as I can. If I ever decide to have children, I'll make sure they know this classic as well as I do.

A superb book -- enjoy it!

I read this book many years ago, and was very moved by it. Probably read it ten times.

Although the main character is a 10 year old girl, it's not a girl's book per se. As a
boy, I still completely identified with her. It speaks to every child's fantasy of uniqueness,
and the need to share experiences with people who can understand.

I recommend it highly.

A fantastic, present-time psi-based sci-fi.

I read this book 7 years ago, and I have been looking for a copy of it for 4 of those 7 since I read it... This book deserves to be part of any library's collection, regardless of it's age - the copy I read was duct tape bound, so it had seen some wear and tear already. Deserves the 10 rating I give it, and I hope that my children can read this book with me in the years to come.

excellent sci-fi/fantasy children's book

I'm envious of kids today who can take advantage of the recent explosion of interest in science fiction and fantasy. Back when I was browsing in the children's section of the library (all right, so it wasn't that long ago), I read everything -- which wasn't much -- I could find that vaguely fell into those categories. This book blew all my prior favorites away. Willo Davis Roberts has that rare gift of telling a great story simply, without pandering or dumbing a book down, yet with all the best parts of an adult thriller -- the main character, struggling to find where she and her telekinetic talents fit in a disbelieving world, must try to separate those she can trust from the people who just want to use her. In her search, she discovers some unlikely allies, including kids "gifted" as herself. As a kid, I loved this book because I immediately identified with the main character, wishing I had a friend like her. That's how real I found the people of this story. My copy of "The Girl with the Silver Eyes" is pretty battered, but I can't wait to pass it on to my children

I wish it didn't have to end

This book was a childhood favorite of mine, and one which is still on my bookshelf today (and will always be). It explores in a very human way, and from the realistic viewpoint of a young girl, the wonders and prices of possessing telekinetic power. My only complaint is just as it was getting REALLY good the book ended. I wish there was a sequel. If you like this book, you should also like The Girl Who Owned a City by O.T. Nelson and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler....all about children who are forced to depend only on themselves...my favorite childhood subject.
