A great story of life on your own!

The Woman Who Rides Like A Man is a great book and takes a different turn than the others. Alanna goes to the south and stays with a native tribe. I thought Mrs. Pierce did a wonderful job with this book, creating more adventures for Alanna, even though she was out of the palace. Not at all boring and Alanna most certainly is a woman who rides like a man! Wonderful!

Great Book

This book was great I loved it! I couldn't stop reading reading which my mom says is a sign for a good book! It was well written and very adventurious. I have read the 1-3 books in the series and all are my favorite I'm sad that there is only four books in the series. Anyone should read it!

Great, not as strong, but good

Although this is another display of Pierce's magical narrative, I agree with some of the other reviewers in that this was not the best book in the series. (In response to Alison from CA, this wasn't *bad*, per se, but it _was_ slightly disappointing.) Actually, I've probably suffered less disappointments then most readers, since I made the mistake of reading the Immortals quartet before this one, and so I already knew who everyone was going to end up with. That's proably why I wasn't much interested with the occurrences in it. Also, it seems to me that any great series has at least one weak book, and in the Song of the Lioness Quartet, I think this was it. Jonathan was extremely annoying in this book, as compared to his character in the first two. Alanna was annoying in that she kept it up with him, even though it was obvious they were not meant for each other, and Jon was acting like a chauvanistic, spoiled, bratty jerk! Well, perhaps he wasn't that bad, and I certainly liked him in the first two, but still. Although all I have done thus far is rant over its flaws, this book is actually very good. As always, Tamora Pierce's wonderful narrative keeps you riveted, and, of course, you cannot read the fourth until you read this one.

The Woman Who Rides Like a Man

I liked Book 3 in Alanna's story the best of all. I did read The Immortals first, but I still loved how Alanna and George got together. I think that the third book contains the most magic, which is so cool, and it also placed Alanna in an entirely new environment. I love the Bahzir tribes and their customs and magic. Also, in this book, Alanna really comes face-to-face with herself for the first time, and the last book in this quartet is very obscure and unexplained. I think the end of her relationship with Jon was for the best, and it shows that just because you love someone, it doesn't mean you are meant for each other. George's romance of her provides so sharp a contrast that even an inexperienced reader should be able to tell that these two belong with one another. This used to be my least favorite of Alanna's adventures, but my opinion has changed and if you didn't like it very much, I recommend you give it another read. You'll fing it grows on you.

Wonderful

I thought that this book was really great. I was a little heartbroken when Alanna and Jon had a fight and broke up, but life goes on. I was glad to see that she got together with George though. This book included magic, combat, romance and lot of other wonderful things. I would definetly recommend this book!!
