Four stars or not...still not sure
This was a tough one for me. I think Picoult is an amazing storyteller and have enjoyed her books to varying degrees (I still think PLAIN TRUTH was the best). This was a well-crafted novel telling the story of a very difficult subject. She managed to communicate the proper shock and disgust with the horrific crime committed but she also conveyed how difficult it must have been for the perpetrator living year after year with almost intolerable bullying. It really is a very good book. However, I was tempted to give it three stars because of the shocking surprise ending. Frankly, I just couldn't buy it. Even with the explanations, I couldn't buy it. No matter how hard Picoult tried to explain it, it didn't ring true to me given the narrative of the book. But (except for a lot of excessive offensive language), her storytelling won out in my evaluation, so I gave it four.

Super book club read
All 5 ladies in our book club loved this read. We all work in a high school so it really 'hit home' for us. Eyes need to be opened to the bullying that occurs with so much teen angst in high schools everywhere. Homerun, Ms. Picoult. We highly recommend it.

Good book - Difficult Subject
I purchased this book for a book group reading. Although it was a difficult subject (school shooting), it was well written and helps to understand how something like this could happen (motivation).
My 1st Picoult book
This was the first book by the author that I read. I'd heard so much about her books, so when this one came out I gave it a try.
Very enjoyable, but heavy. You have to tread softly when talking about this subject and Picoult did it well.

Riveting
It was a fluke that I came across this novel,
Nineteen
Minutes
. With that being said, this book by no means is a fluke. In Undergrad, I majored in English. I've read many things from British Literature to True Crime, and I must say that Nineteen Minutes is by far the greatest thought-provoking novel I've ever read.
Nineteen Minutes is compelling and gripping. This novel will take you to the dark corners of your mind, and will have you asking one important question: Does a child who's been bullied and victimized have the right to fight back?
Jodi Picoult is a genius. She took a controversial issue and turned it into a bestseller. This is a hard novel to put down, even after reading it.
In nineteen minutes you can change the world... if there's anything I could pass along in this lifetime, it would be this novel.
