A pleasure trip

Bryson's witty style makes this Australia travelogue a pleasure to read...though after descriptions of various snakes, insects, box jellyfish, saltwater crocodiles, treacherous backcountry and disenfranchised and forgotten Aborigines, you may think twice about visiting...

His description of the people and places of a criss-crossing, multi-stage visit make for interesting, fun reading, especially as it is liberally sprinkled with solid science and history. Wish there had been more about the natives included.

Engaging introduction to Austrailia

Bryson has a knack for using humor to liven his sometimes mundane travel stories. I learned a lot about Austrailia while having a lot of fun just being entertained. His tales always contain many anecdotes that breath life into them, where many travel guides are mostly a collection of facts.

Great, funny read

This is the first Bill Bryson book that I read. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It was so funny that I would laugh out loud. It was interesting to read about someone's travels but not in a traditional manner. Sounds like Bill would make for a great travel companion. I've read some of his other books since then, but this remains my favorite.
