A real charmer!

Is there a child who hasn't wondered whether their toys come alive in the middle of the night? Ann M. Martin and Laura Godwin have written a delightful fantasy, both humorous and tender, in which two sets of doll-house dolls, one set made in England 100 years ago and the other made in Cleveland last week, come to life and we follow Anabelle Doll as she searches for the lost-for-forty-five-years Auntie Doll and makes a friend. Accompanied by wonderful illustrations and end-papers that mustn't be missed; by the time you've finished reading, you'll be convinced that toys do come alive at night. A real charmer!

Learn the truth about Barbie!! (You won't be surprised)

This book is a hoot! Because of the subject matter, it will inevitably be a "girl's book," but girls will indeed enjoy the story of the heroine, Annabelle, the first in her family to have the courage, upon finding a secret journal, to go in search of her lost Aunt Sarah. Meanwhile, the rest of the one hundred-year-old doll family escape the discomfort of reality by engaging in sing-alongs of sixties' tunes, such as "RESPECT," and "Natural Woman." Perhaps the appealing illustrations carry the book, but the subtle humor in the storyline certainly keep it going.

My kids loved it! That's what it's all about.

My kids are 6 and 9. After reading a few pages my kids asked me to read more. Each night we would look forward to reading another chapter in the book. It kept their interest and had them asking for more. It's a wonderful story and I'm going to order more copies for friends right now! If you like imagination and stories of friendship you should buy this book.

A great book

Annabelle Doll is an eight-year-old, and has been since she was made some 100 years ago! Part of a family of eight (including Papa Doll, Mama Doll, Uncle Doll, Auntie Sarah, Nanny, Annabelle, little-brother Bobby and Baby Betsy), Annabelle lives her little-girl doll existence - being played with, avoiding The Captain (her owner's cat), and most of all avoiding being seen as alive. However, when she discovers the journal of Auntie Sarah, who has been missing since 1955, she decides to find out what happened to her.

Things become better when her owner's little sister receives the Funcraft Doll House, complete with a brand new plastic family - neighbors. Annabelle, who must be cautious, to protect her china body, makes great friends with Tiffany Funcraft, who is wild and adventurous, with her unbreakable plastic body. Together the girls dare all (or a lot anyway), to find Auntie Sarah.

This book has an absolutely fantastic story. The author succeeds in keeping the main characters in character as dolls, showing their unique existence. There is a great deal of gentle humor, with the illustrations providing just the right amount of action, not distracting from the story. My 9-year-old daughter loved the story, and had absolutely no problem reading it. I recommend this book to everyone with a daughter!

Amazing

I am a doll lover, and am always looking for books like this. I got lucky here; a favourite author, favourite illustrator, and a favourite subject. The story is a lot of fun too; Annabelle, an eight-year-old doll made nearly 100 years ago, has to deal with two events at once; worrying about the mysterious disappearance of her Aunt Sarah fifty-five years ago, and dealing with a family of plastic dolls that has been bought for the younger sister of the girl who owns the old dollhouse. It is funny, lively, and a lot of fun to read. I loved it and hope they write more books about the two doll families.
