I wanted this book to go on and on. A must read for all healthcare providers and general folks interested in global health and brilliant do-good doctors.

Haiti and Farmer

Having been to Haiti on 3 Shorterm Mission trips and my occupation is an RN, I found Kidder's book most reveiling. Haiti's interstructure has had 200 years of Witchcraft and political evil that no one seems to care about. Porta Prince is the hellhole of the world. Farmer seems to me to be altuistic in his approach to solving the problems, yet, backing Arriseid gained ground. As we see in any country, they go the way of leadership so why is Haiti still like Bible days with no modern facilities? The only thing I see these days is the cell phone phenomenon.The people have dirt floors, no elecitricty, no running water, no school system (except by churches), no newpapers, little medical care and yet the young people are using cell phones.

Inspirational doctor

Dr. Paul Farmer seems to have sacrificed everything that most of us find important in order to lift up the lives of the poor in Haiti, Peru and Russia. As I read the book, I worried that he would work so hard that he himself would perish. This is an eye-opening, inspiring book. I recommend it to everyone.

Briefly -- This is an exceptional book, by gifted writer/narrationist Tracy Kidder, about one of the most wonderful human beings, doing good for our planet and its inhabitants. The book is inspiring, and leaves the reader wanting to learn more -- about Paul Farmer, Partners In Health, and Farmer's missions, -- and to take action to make our challenging world a better place.
