Crammed from cover to cover with a wealth of tips and ideas

Now in a completely updated and expanded ninth edition (including the introduction of websites and new mail-order sources), Carla Emery's The Encyclopedia Of Country Living is much more than just an ordinary recipe, notions, and activities book. The Encyclopedia Of Country Living is crammed from cover to cover with a wealth of tips and ideas for people inclined toward a country living atmosphere for their homes and lifestyles -- no matter whether their home happens to be located in the city, in the suburbs, or in the countryside. From the basics of raising chickens, pigs, and other livestock; to making a quilting frame; to pruning a tree; to recipes for homemade food with flair, The Encyclopedia Of Country Living is a handy, comprehensive, useful and "user friendly" 896-page reference.

A must have to survive post-Bush America! :)

If any single book could help you survive a complete collapse of out economy, this would be the one. With a massive amount of just the sort of tips you need to make it through the year on a handful of acres and a lot of sweat. This book helped us transform our little one acre suburban hideaway into something we know will make our family healthier, safer, and happier. Thanks for writing it!!! :)

My country bible!

For anyone interested in being self-sufficient in any way - either by raising animals for fun or food, gardening, bee keeping, fencing - this is the book for you. We have lived as self sufficient as we could for the last 10 years, and this book is the one book we use continuously. I refer to it often. If you are a serious "back-to-the-lander", this may seem like an expensive buy - but it is definitely worth it! It has helped us out in so many ways!

The Bible of Country Living

If you can only buy one book on country living, buy this one.
I have read all the books for 30 years. I actually could have saved a lot of money and just bought this one.
She writes like you are sitting at her kitchen table with her.
Anything that you want to know is in there. I could toss a lifetime collection of how-to books and keep just this one and get by.

The single most usefull book I've ever read.

For anyone who lives in, or longs to live in the country, this book is a must have. Even "clueless" city folk could survive and thrive in a self-sufficient setting as long as this book is on their bookshelf. Anecdotal writing style combined with a dry wit make this book a pleasure to read, with so many practical and usefull facts I couldn't begin to start listing them. More information crammed into it's 800 plus pages for the price than one would expect.
