Every woman and especially young woman should have a copy of this book

This is such a fabulous book, I want to buy a copy for every 13-18 year old girl in this country. It has pictures of women of all colors and sizes, which is so rare in this restrictive media world we live in. And it provides honest, frank, and even sometimes personalized discussions about things that it is so hard for young women (and women in general!) to ask each other about or to find good information on. It has sections on "shape," "skin," "down there," "boobs," and "hair and nails," with each showing a variety of pictures and talking about various possible problems, worries, or conditions that affect women and their bodies. It's like the "Our Bodies, Our Selves" for a new generation! Thanks so much to Nancy Redd for this, I am immediately sending copies to my teenage girl cousins, and also to a few adult women I know...!

Every woman should own this book

Ever since I can remember, the media has been shouting at me that I'm not good enough. I remember being twelve years old and staring in the mirror at my stomach--which was concave back then by the way--and wondering why I was "already getting fat." The media shouts with words and images that women aren't good enough and can never be good enough... And privately, mothers, friends, sisters, and aunts whisper to each other, " It's all a ridiculous lie, and you are beautiful the way you are." It's about time that the whispers drowned out the shouts, and that is just what Nancy Redd is doing in Body Drama. In no uncertain terms, with the grace and a big dose of humor, she is shouting to her fellow women: "YOU ARE NORMAL, YOU ARE NORMAL, YOU ARE NORMAL!"

The Naked Truth About Beauty

This book courageously offers truth over the fictional "perfect" body that the media has created. From magazine covers to television, we are constantly bombarded with images of what beauty is supposed to be. This book brings to the light the subjects that are usually kept unmentioned and reminds us that there is no perfection. Every woman of any age has insecurities about her body, especially during the teenage years and Miss Redd candidly speaks about her own insecurities in a way that, much like the photos, is completely open and exposed. She also speaks in a tone that is both honest and fun, whether it's about zits, lumps or bumps we wish never had. Every page in this book is empowering and exudes sincerity. The bottom line, love the body you've got and take care of it intelligently.

Body Drama was the perfect compliment to "Body Esteem, Weight Loss Through Self-Discovery," a book that has been really helping me with my weight loss and self-esteem.

Should be in Every Home that Includes Teen Girls

Body Drama; Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers is a new book by Nancy Amanda Redd that should be on the shelf of every family, school, and doctor in America. This book provides pictures, knowledge and encouragement to young women everywhere to help them avoid feeling insecure, ugly or imperfect when faced with the air-brushed women the media bombards them with. This book covers it all - from body hair, bras, acne, weight issues, stinkies, bumpies, and even vaginal discharge!

I admit, when I agreed to review this book I assumed I would skim it, but I have to tell you that I read every single word, laughed, groaned, and even leaned a thing or two (like what a gueef is). This book is packed with very funny bad jokes, health information, body care tips and most importantly, full color photos of real women's bodies described using real-world language. This is maybe the most important aspect of the book - real words to describe real bodies - that you get to see. These bodies help people understand that their bodies are normal. There is even a page of vulvas - yep, real ones!

Everywhere in this book is the message that you are perfect and anyone who loves you should think you look perfect! If you change your body it must be because you want to and nobody has the right to try and make you feel bad! We all stink sometimes, get zits, and 85% of women have cellulite - so relax and love living!

I tried to get my 12-year old and her friends to offer some quotes about this book, but they blushed and said "Mom, we are too young," but I will leave it on the shelf in my room though, where she knows she can find it and look through it in private. That said, I guess I better buy a copy to leave in my office, too! My 15-year old however, read it during break and will publish her own review.

Nancy Amanda Redd has a Harvard degree with honors in women's studies and was Miss Virginia. Her goal is writing this book seems to have been to help young women understand "normal" covers a very wide reality and differs for every shape, ethnicity, and size.

There is not enough I can say about this book! Thank you Nancy Redd!

An Amazing Contribution

I couldn't believe how great this book is. I'm tempted to give copies to people I think would like them. I've been talking about it to everyone who will listen. Ms. Redd provides a combination of practical help (e.g. how to make a sanitary napkin out of toilet paper in a pinch), solid advice (e.g. when to go to the doctor), and girl-talk (if that's the right way to describe her use of terms like "poo" and "down there"). Contributing her own dilemmas so candidly, along with the photos of all kinds of young women and their bodies, part and whole, makes the book all the more compelling. It is also incredibly easy to read because of the language and the layout. There is no shame in this book. I wish there had been a book like this for the women of my generation, and the several generations since. The author should be congratulated for the huge amount of courage, creativity and persistence it took to put this together. Body Drama will making a unique contribution to teenage women now.
