Pretty good

This will be another enjoyable read for Dickey's fans of his previous 'Thieves' Paradise'. Filled with fierce action, sizzling love scenes, and wit kept me turning pages 'til the very end.

I recommend it!

I have to say this was EJD best ever!!! I bought the book on 8/22 and just finished it on 8/24. Very well written!!! I consider myself a VERY big fan of his work and he did not let me down!

The BEST just keeps getting BETTER...

I have read every book that EJD has written and each time I say to myself "this is the BEST one yet" and each time I have to go back and correct myself because like a fine wine they keep getting better with time...This book put you in the Drivers Seat (no pun intended) and made you feel like you were right there in the bar with Driver and in the hotel room when he and the dancer were hiding out - Each chapter got deeper and deeper and many times I wanted to flip to the back and see the end to find out how this book ended - I was so fascinated with each word - each sentence - each chapter - I can not wait for the next book - Eric THANK YOU for bringing it to us straight (no chasers) and for giving us so much entertainment - And just like Pringles once I popped the book open I just couldnt stop until I finished the book - Way to go Eric, you did it my brother!!!

Order in the Court

#1 Every single character in this story had a backstory that Dickey made sure to mention, from Panther's restraining order to Lisa's need for a child. Pay attention. #2 The back story made these characters extremely well-developed. #3 Boredom never comes out of a story with twists and turns that meet and have coffee while your mind goes "Awwww, so that's the secret". #4 A good story doesn't need a heartbroken person or oral sex or cheating to make it a good story. Dickey never pushed himself into the love story category although he did visit from time to time. He's free to write what he wants to write and if you don't like it, don't buy the book. It wasn't a secret that this was a thriller--page one will tell you that. #5 Time wasted? He didn't make you read the book till the end, you did that all by yourself.

Defense rests...

This book was the most incredible book that I've ever read from Dickey. I loved it! This drama-driven story had a reasonable amount of violence (without going into action film nonsense), a smidgeon of love story (but not too much to make it corny), a hint of sex (but not so much that it seemed more like Erotica), and a whole lotta good times. Every character in this story was interesting, made me want to know their own personal autobiography (even though they're fiction), and the dialogue (I can't emphasize this enough because most authors aren't good at this) was realistic and easily spoken. I enjoyed figuring out the secret (the sweatshirt scene whispered the answer to me), learning how scandalous Lisa REALLY was, and I liked Rufus' flaws and gifts. Of course I liked the main character, but sometimes he was too..nah, he was the average man. I liked him. Great job, Mr. Dickey. I believe this is your best yet.

A Memorable Character in the Middle of Love and Hate

Drive Me Crazy is a crime story with lots of twists and turns, spiced up by sexual fire, complex motives and violent action. The book's strength is its portrayal of how Driver, an ex-con who is trying to do the right thing, deals with threats to his brother, himself and those he cares about that leave not enough ethical choices.

Grace under pressure is something we would all like to have. Driver does his best, but the pressure gets to him. That bending of the moral knees made his character all the more appealing to me. Despite being surrounded by murderers, hustlers and cheaters, he keeps trying to do his job and to keep up with his responsibilities. You will find his moral challenges to be interesting and well worth considering.

One of the book's major themes is how love and hate are closely connected. I found that theme better developed in this book than in many of Mr. Dickey's earlier books.

Mr. Dickey has developed a dandy plot around the criminal machinations of the people in his life. I won't go into details lest I spoil the story for you. Those who know the publishing business will find a subplot about a famous novelist that has some fascinating angles.

For me, the main drawback is that the other characters were not too well developed except with back stories. It's better to have character development flow out of words, thoughts and deeds within the context of the story. Mr. Dickey too often took the easy way out and made the other characters fit around a stereotype that made them recognizable . . . but not especially interesting.

Avoid temptation!
