Amber's relationship with Scott from start to finish
I don't know why this book got such bad reviews. Just be sure of one thing before you read it: don't have high expectations. Its written very simply, and strictly from Amber Frey's point of view. I must admit that I didn't follow the
Scott
Peterson
case in detail, nor watch it on TV, but all the attention that the case got made me curious. Don't expect to find out much about the case itself - like any evidence, proof that Scott murdered Laci, etc. because Amber Frey hardly touches upon that. Rather, she focuses on her relationship with Scott from start to finish - how she met him, his charming personality, his continuous lies...etc. It focuses on Amber's life, not the courtcase.

Insight Into Amber
First of all, I disagree somewhat with the negative reviews of this book. While it is not the work of a prize winning author, I did find it somewhat insightful. I read this book, to see if I thought Amber Frey was writing it purely for the money. I personally, have no problem with her making some money from this book. She deserves some compensation for the time and the emotional stress this case put on her and her child. Amber, being a single mom, I'm sure she can use it. What I did find, was a lot of insight into the kind of person Amber Frey is. I admire her for doing the right thing, and coming forth with everything that transpired between her and
Scott
Peterson
. Without her testimony, he probably would not have been convicted. I think this book shows what she went through behind the scenes, taping the conversations and the emotional strain it put on her. It also conveys to the reader, how easy it was for Scott to lie to people, everyone who cared for him, not just Amber. One interesting detail in the book, is the nightmare she described as having on the night of December 23, 2002. She later realized that the woman she thought was laughing in her dream was, Laci. And, Laci wasn't laughing, it was just that charismatic smile she had. Being a paranormal investigator, I found the dream to be intriguing and am now convinced that Scott murdered Laci on the night of the 23rd. I tend to think this was not a nightmare, but a visitation and warning from Laci for Amber. (In Anne Bird's book, Blood Brother, she recounts Laci's mom having seen Laci sitting on the couch and saying, Hi, Mom. This was attributed to Sharon, being under stress. Scott also spoke to Anne of seeing Laci, in the mirror at her house.) There are several uncanny coincidences which makes me think that this was Amber's destiny or "duty" to be involved in this case and bring Laci's murderer to justice. Laci's due date was February 10th: Amber's birthday. When Amber became pregnant with her 2nd child, her due date was May 4th: Laci's birthday. Police found a day planner in Scott's car, with the date 3-28 and marked special day for Amber: 328 was Amber's hotel room number when she went to testify in the trial. So, there are a few interesting facts in this book, it depends on how deep you look into it. It is an easy and quick read. As far as the cover goes, I think it could have been done in better taste, perhaps with just her picture on it. That's one point I do agree on, Laci's family has been though more than most of us could even remotely understand. Over all, if nothing else, perhaps buy a used version or borrow it from a friend if you hesitate to purchase it, but are interested in reading it. Follow it up with reading Blood Brother.

An interesting account of a sad case
Amazon should delete the reviews written by people who are simply expressing their feelings toward Ms. Frey vs. their opinions about the book. The book, typical of this genre of quickly written books about hot topics and court cases, isn't going to win any writing awards. But it offers an interesting account of this very sad case. Anyone interested in the
Peterson case
will appreciate the detailed account of Ms. Frey's experience as yet another victim of
Scott Peterson
.
learning
I read this book and thought is to be very good. Amber has been through a lot in her life and being a young mother myself I can see how easy it could be to be swept up in a man that is willing to give you attention, luckey for me I am married.
I think the fact that she talks about her religous ties shows us that she is not all about the money. She is a very misunderstood person. People are very negative toward her and i don't think they should be.
This book is Amber's side of the story so don't expect much else. i am busy reading other books about the case to learn more. i did follow the case but want to learn every point of view there is.
Amber is a strong woman who made some mistakes. Lets be thankful she is not asking us to fix them for her!!!!!
This book is a great read!!! A must for anyone intrested in the case!
