Read this in one sitting!

I read this book in one day. I could not stop reading. It was so riveting and wonderfully written. Her frank discriptions were scary but make her personality really come though. Just read the first paragraph and you will see.

Amazing story of courage

Alice Seebold went through a incredibly awful, traumatic experience. She starts off the book with a brutal and painfully raw description of her attack. I literally could only read one or two paragraphs at a time as it is very difficult to read. That being said, I could barely read about the experience....Alice Seebold had to live through it. But live through it she did. An experience like that would emotionally traumatize anyone. But the personal decisions the author makes emotionally after this experience and they way she chooses to respond to it are truly inspirational. She is obviously an incredibly brave and courageous person. Truly a great read.

Great Book -- sad, heartfelt, personal, gripping, beautifully written

I loved this book, it was so amazing, inspiring and extremely hard to stop reading. Her story of her rape in her freshman year of college and life in the aftermath of it is written in such vivid, descriptive language that is both raw and harsh but beautiful at the same time. She struggles in her relationships with her family members, friends and men. Sebolds writing is so real that I felt that I was experiencing it myself and at times the reality of it made it painful to read. Anyone who liked the Lovely Bones, also by Alice Sebold, will love Lucky and vice versa. However, I personally enjoyed Lucky much more. The writing in Lucky is so personal and heartfelt and she really sends the message that you have to stand up for yourself in order to survive.

Lucky to Have Read It

This memior begins with a horrific scene that I read just before bedtime. I had nightmares that night, and when I woke up the next morning, I considered picking up something else, something lighter, more appropropriate, perhaps, for the week before Christmas. Lucky for me, I decided to return to Alice's story, and finished the book that same day. If you are looking for an author who sugar-coats, apologizes, or sentimentalizes, this book is not for you. If you want to read a true, no-holds barred account of rape and its aftermath, I would recommend this to you in a second. I don't think I've ever read such an honest book.
