Another to add to your Rollins collection

No spoilers

I'm a huge James Rollins fan and as is the case with all of his recent novels, I eagerly awaited the release of The Judas Strain. After having it since it came out, I finally got the time to sit down and devour it and now I'm able to give a review.

To keep it short, I'll give some direct advice. If you've read Rollins before, you know what to expect and if you liked anything of his from the past then you'll enjoy this one too. The only complaint I can really lodge is that (as was the case at points in Map of Bones) he overdoes it on the scientific end to the point where you have to re-read a few passages to glean what it means. Besides that though, it's still a great read (Amazonia is still my favorite) so you should pick it up.

On the other hand, if you're new to Rollins, first you should pick up some of his older books, if for no other reasons so you can appreciate the development of the author. If you're going to ignore that and still read this first anyway and are wondering what kind of read it is, the description that is both most fitting and succinct is Dan Brown-esque adventure/thrills/mystery with a healthy dose of both fully realistic and quasi-realistic science.

Bottom line for fans both new and old is pick it up.

Full of Action and stunning characters

I have read just about every book written by James Rollins and in my opinion "The Judas Strain" is right up there at the top. It's a stunning and education portrait of those nasty bugs in the world of biological science. In the "The Judas Strain", the fourth novel in the Sigma Force series I thought Mr. Collins writing style captured the true effects of a loose deadly bacteria that is killing all life in the waters of Christmas Island. The story is full of action and the author had a way of drawing me into the characters; it was as if I knew them. I like that about an author. Off the top of my head the mega author Clive Cussler also a knack for strong character development and Mr. Collins in his own style has proved he knows a thing or two about developing character traits. There are enough quality reviews that detail the story, so I won't add more print, except to say that you will not find one of the main characters around for the next novel.

Engaging, thought-Provoking

As a new reader to James Rollins, I didn't have any pre-set expectations. What I found is an appreciation for the work and curiosity to see what other books Rollins has written. Enter the past: Marco Polo, famed explorer of antiquity, who discovers a secret he takes with him to the grave. The story ties into an outbreak of a virus in the Indonesian islands, that threatens to mutate the bio-genetic code of life on the planet. The members of Sigma Force deploy against the eco threat, racing in time and at-odds with an international Guild, that threatens to weaponize the seemingly unstoppable hazard.

Plenty of action to keep you turning pages like fan blades. The characters are distinct enough, albeit without much depth. The story is engaging enough to keep your interest and see how the protagonists escape one peril after another. With plotlines converging around a treasure hunt of sorts, angelic script ties into the mystery of genetic code--It all adds up to an engaging, thought-provoking read.

Another Great Read

I've loved every one of James Rollin's books and this one is no exception. He presents a grand adventure that kept me turning pages. When I pick up one of his books, I know what I'm getting, otherwise I never would pay the money. He has all the elements I like in a good story with great characters, lots of tension, and plenty of history and science thrown in. Plus, I love the puzzles, and especially the illustrations.

Great work and I can't wait for the next Sigma novel. Highly recommended.
