Awesome
OK, I am going
into high
school this year and Into
Thin
Air
was on my reading list. So, I figured, here we go again, reading a boring book. When I started reading it though it was AMAZING!!! I loved it. It is so suspenseful and you never know what is going to happen next. Just like Jon didn't know what would happen next when he was on
Everest
. This book is a must-read for all ages.
Should cure any rational person of wanting to visit this mountain
Covers the disastrous 1996 Mount
Everest expedition
which Krakauer covered for Outside magazine. This compelling story should cure all rational folks of any desire to climb Everest, and lends valuable insight
into
the character of those who set out to climb the world's highest peak.

enjoyed it
I really enjoyed this book. The story was compelling and well written. I finished it in three days because I was so engrossed.
Into the pages of history.....
This is the third book by Jon Krakauer that I have voraciously read. The third, and by far the most chilling. I enjoyed
Into
The Wild and Under The Banner Of Heaven for the pace, the history, and for Krakauer's impeccable ability to weave a thrilling and interesting story from events in which he didn't participate. However, Into
Thin
Air
is a very
personal
account
of the events that transpired in the '96
Everest
disaster
. It is so raw with remorse and sadness. But he manages to balance theses emotions with a sense of adventure, and the reader is able to really absorb his passion for mountaineering. Although I came away with the "why would anyone in their right minds want to do this" feeling, it spoke to my sense of adventure and need to challenge myself.
I highly recommend this book! It is thrilling, sad, adventurous, and raw.

A Survivor's Account
Another reviewer said that this book was haunting, and I definitely agree with that. It made it hard for me to sleep.
The author
account
s a horrific ordeal on the mountain that would be painful to report on after the fact, let alone live through. Especially disturbing were some of the climbers' refusals to assist others on the mountain who were clearly dying there and needed emergency help.
Also reading about what happens to the human body in the cold and
thin
air
, especially when lingering for too long, is remarkable, especially considering how some survived it despite being exposed for days.
A penitent, unforgettable account that just can't be matched by other books written about true events because the author was there, and had to survive, and deal with the pain and guilt afterward.
