Help for the hopeless?
If you live with a hoarder you will recognize your situation in the first few pages. Not only do they understand the inappropriate behaviors of the hoarder, they also deal with the unproductive behaviors of the people who live with them. The book provides some realistic strategies for the hoarder to learn how to make decisions. The only thing lacking is how to get the hoarder to read the book and decide to put it to use.
Great Workbook
In a workbook format, with clarity for the layperson Ready to clean up their living or work space. This book, I think, would also be Perfect for the professional that has hoarders amongst their clientele.
I must admit I'm a hoarder living with a hoarder, and when I began taking action, my husband became Furious. My advice, then, is that everyone directly affected by the decision to de-clutter must be ready to make the change. You cannot make the decision for another person (as the book is quick to point out).
If you and everyone else in your home is in agreement, I highly recommend this book, and especially recommend it to professionals. It delves into the various psychological causes for
hoarding
. While enlightening for friends and family members of hoarders, it won't
help until
the consequences to the hoarder outweigh the discomfort and anxiety involved in getting rid of things.

Buried in Treasures: Help for Compulsive Acquiring, Saving, and Hoarding
I found this book to be a real eye opener. I have bought more books on getting organized than most people have books in general! This is the first one I have read that actually gets to the root of my problem. I have always just thought of myself as a messy slacker. Now I understand the reasons I have trouble getting rid of things or sorting through things that I have collected for years. The fear of letting go has been explained and has actually made it so much easier to LET GO! This book also has sections for the people around me (husband and kids for me) to read and see what I am all about, and
helping these
people be supportive and not just critical. I truly wish I had found this book years ago. I can honestly say it has changed my life.

Hoarding
As a Professional Organizer that works with hoarders I find this book a useful tool to
help family
and friends get a better insight into the mind of a hoarder. Organizers will also find this book very useful. I would also have any person interested in helping someone get started in decluttering his or her home read this book. The authors have plans in this book that are both useful and insightful to help in the decluttering process. This book is short to read but long on knowledge and facts. Everyone that reads this book will have a better idea on what
hoarding
is and how to get beyond it.
