Delightful and Mesmerizing!!!

I just finished reading this book aloud to my class of 5th graders. They were mesmerized by Cat's relationship with the little girl Sammy, and I could easily read deep concern on all their faces as I read a critical portion of the book. They were also delighted with the pre-pubescent hint of romance between Cat and Zane.

Captivating realistic and historic fiction.

This is a great introduction to a unit on the depression and DUST BOWL eras. Capture students' interest and imagination; evoke emotional involvement! Wonderful in conjunction with Karen Hesse's award-winning historic fiction, *****OUT OF THE DUST, as well as two great non-fictions-- Jerry Stanley's *****CHILDREN OF THE DUST BOWL: The True Story of the School at Weedpatch Camp, another award winner, and ****THE DUST BOWL by John Farris, a fascinating factual account.

Cool!

I really liked Cat Running! I thought it was well written and gave many facts. It was also realistic because the ending wasn't like her father saying, "okay, okay, you can wear slacks." It had lots of important values and friendship in it.

Nicely written book

about the depression, poverty, a girl's secret place, and her special talent.
