Discipline with insight
I would recommend this book to parents. It helps the reader to look at how situations are promoted through our actions and word usage. The book is a bit annoying as it is outdated in word usage, a little stereotyped as to "mother", "father" roles. However, still a good read, promoting democracy and independece to our
children
.
Best Parenting Book on the Market for Half a Century!
As a retired licensed professional counselor, educational psychologist, and educator over a practice spanning 40 years, I have found no other parenting guide as easy to understand and apply as "
Children
the
Challenge
." It allows the reader, be they brand new parent or professional, to make effective use of the common sense techniques which follow the first rule of medicine "Do no harm." It's fun to read and in each chapter you find yourself saying "Why didn't I think of that?" or "I never thought of it that way before, but it makes perfect sense." It is well organized, with each chapter heading stating the basic "rules" of positive parenting. I buy a copy for all new parents on my gift list, including my own children and now grandchildren.

Fabulous Book
This is a fabulous books that reminds you of probably all the things you set out to do for your
children
but get distracted along the way, for all kinds of reasons. Helps you refocus on how to help you child grow.
Principles endure, titles change, this is the Best
This book is just SO GOOD. I have been using it for over 35 years now and every time I pick it up I am reminded, with pleasure, of how much it has helped me parent, grandparent and now professionally "parent" as a nanny.
There are many excellent parenting guides out there but this is the true original. Some of the examples are a bit dated and reflect a less complicated time but the PRINCIPLES of effective parenting are well in place.
I have taught parenting classes for 30 years and always have parents tell me that when they read it they feel like the author must have been looking into the windows of their home because he knows just what goes on. What's even better is that he tells you what to do about it.
The chapters on Encouragement, Natural and Logical Consequences and The Child's Mistaken Goals can't be beat. Even if you just read those chapters you would have your money's worth.
This isn't a 'fast read', but is one that you will turn to again and again because it explains the principles of rearing
children
so well. Wonderful examples.
The Best of the Basics.

A MUST READ!
I am not done reading this book yet however, the tips are wonderful for any parent who is having troubles with their kid. Or this book is great for first time parents who want to raise their kid different from the way they were raised.
