Its five stars for a reason

I've known Mark personally for years. He's one of the most unique business people and writers I've come across. His passion for building businesses that do right by customers, employees, and the community comes through in everything he writes. Others have touched this topic, but none with the credibility Mark brings. I highly recommend.

The "Soft Side" Succeeds

Mark tells stories to illuminate his basic premise that a company's values drive its performance (financially and spiritually). The time to set a values framework is at inception, when the company is young. Simple sounding, but difficult to implement. Mark shows the way.

Specific advice and examples; from a friend

As a business executive I soon discovered that most of what I really needed to know was passed along by word of mouth- the gold mined through hard experience. Particularly if you are starting a new venture, defining yourself as a leader, or wanting to lead in a way that you feel good about because it brings your beliefs into acton, this book can give you those nuggets of wisdom in a structured way.

It is filled with real life examples and gathers the advice into specific categories. While it is encouraging, Mark also points out the pitfalls that he and others have encountered.

I have known the author for many years and worked closely with him, so I am not unbiased. That also means I can tell you this book summarizes what he has learned over those many years of heart-felt effort dedicated to helping leaders "do well while doing good" and encouraging young MBAs to "follow their passion." If that's where your heart is, this $10 book is well worth a look. And you'll help support the Social Venture Network, too.

Insights on issues of commitment, competence, and how to run a business.

TRUE TO YOURSELF: LEADING A VALUES-BASED BUSINESS adds to others in 'The social Venture Network' series, but stands well alone as a detailed analysis of how to build the kind of organization which is both financially successful and a positive force on the planet. Ideals are fine - but how can one keep customers happy, have ideals, and keep the bottom line in the black, simultaneously? TRUE TO YOURSELF offers the author's own experiences as well as interviews with over seventy industry leaders who lend insights on issues of commitment, competence, and how to run a business.
