Great for beginning readers

My daughter has this set, another one by the same author, and several Bob Books. When she first started reading, these books were excellent because they kept her attention, and she didnt get frustrated from sounding out too many words! I highly reccommend these books and Bob Books!

Now my Daughter keeps asking to read more!!!

Before we got these books we tried a lot of the ready to read paper backs that were Dora, Barbie and other topics. My 6 year old daughter would get frustrated since there wasn't enough repetition for her to help her internalize the phonics behind the words she was reading. The 'Now I'm Reading' series have been the best set we've found. The pictures are light years better than the Bob series. My daughter loves to read now. Tonight she asked if she could read all 10 in one of the sets. If you read the books in order, they'll build their skills in progression learning short vowels 1st and long vowels 2nd. She also likes getting the stickers to show that she is reading them. I really like the parent guide and questions at the end of each book. It helped me understand how to help her read beyond just listening or reading to her. My only complaint is that it was hard to tell how many sets there are at each level.

YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN TO READ!!

Absolutely excellent readers for children. all they need is a basic knowledge of the letter sounds and these books will take over from there. My three children learned to read from these books and learned FAST! Her system is the most logical out there. Most "phonics" books are ridiculous. They are full of words that no child can sound out, such as "sight", etc. How they can be categorized as easy readers or beginner level books is beyond me. Ms. Gaydos' books, however, start out very simple. Every word in her level one books is pronounced exactly as it is spelled - for example a page might say "A cat sat on a mat" - which gives a child confidence. The page after it adds a new word or two, and so forth - such as "A fat cat sat on a flat mat" or something similar. If your child isn't breezing through these books in a matter of days, I'll eat a fat cat on a mat!

Exceptional Book

I purchased Playful Pals for my son, brought it home and he was reading before bed. Now the first thing he ask when he gets up is if we can go to the couch and read. He loves them. I will be getting more in the series.

Better than I could have hoped for!!

I purchased this set for my 4 year old son to use over the summer. I had been looking for a phonics series and this one was by far the best I found. It has the total package - easy enough words to inspire confidence, fun stories, great pictures, and stickers to boot!

My son knew all his letters & basic sounds, but had not really read anything yet (although he was trying). When he saw the colorful pictures and the stickers he got so excited! We started out the books with him saying things like "I can't read", but I just gently encouraged him to try and told him I would help him if he got stuck. These books were so well done that he had no problems sounding out most of the words on his own and as we continued the series his confidence grew. I got the 20 book set, and he read through it in only 2 weeks. It was amazing!! I would highly recommend it!
