Addicting!
I had never heard of Melanie Wells before I read this book, and now I'm a huge fan. If you like fast-paced, engrossing mysteries with a supernatural twist then this book is for you. I love stories told in the first person and Wells pulls this off with ease.
Dylan
Foster
is a smart, witty character and I felt like I was walking along beside her on the journey to uncover hidden secrets in her life.
Dylan Foster is a psychology professor in Dallas, and she has to come to grips with some strange things that have recently happened: everything from dead men talking, to a fly invasion, to a suspicious suicide of a former student. In her search for answers, Dylan also finds more questions, and soon she finds herself in Chicago trying to make sense of it all.
Wells uses her background in psychology to write what she knows, and it really pays off. Dylan Foster and all of the supporting characters are authentic and believable. I love the way that Wells gives enough answers to give you closure, but leaves enough questions to bring you back. Melanie Wells is one of the best new voices in Christian fiction, and I can't wait to read more.

One Of The Most Interesting First Person Stories I've Read
This is my 269th review. 74 of the previous ones have been of books (97 on CDs and concert videos, and 97 on movies), 29 of which have been on fiction. This is the first review I have done on someone I contacted through Amazon, one of my interesting people.
Melanie Wells did an excellent job in grabbing one's attention. Usually, a first person narrative is not much warmer and personable than a third person, but this was an exception.
Dylan
Foster
was very well developed as she told her story (though one can ask how different Foster is from Wells). I was hooked not because of a mystery (though there are some of those) or through some well described character, but because of how likable Foster is.
I wish I could give this five stars, but it failed, in my opinion. As the action hopped on a plane and flew from Dallas to Chicago, the emphasis on the story changed as well. Foster's imperiled job, her relationship with Helene, and her love life were for the most part left behind while the focus turned on the family of Joseph Zocci. In fact, a lot of the mess in Dallas was left unresolved, as if this open endedness was needed to motivate you to buy her next novel, rather than her talent in keeping your interest as she tells the story (not necessary in this case).
Also, Peter Terry failed to be an effective villain, as opposed to Rafar and Destroyer in Frank Peretti's spiritual warfare books. He seemed to come, stir up trouble, and disappear. Likewise, the good spirit, Earl, was more behind the scenes and not a major player, as Perretti's angels were.
While I cannot in good conscience give this five stars, I can heartily give it my recommendation. True, it pales to Perretti's books on the same theme. But one can enjoy this book thoroughly. It gives one some things to think about, and I'm glad I took the time to read it.

Great Read
This Christian suspense novel won't disappoint you. Edgy, but not overly graphic. Dark, but there is always a glimmer of hope. Featuring a protagonist that doesn't have all the answers, spiritually speaking, and is flawed like the rest of us.
amazing
I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it... It was purely captivating. Dark at some points, bringing the main character (and consequently the reader) nearly to her breaking point, but ending the way everything in life will end eventually -- the way God wants it to, and everything for the best -- after all, it all happens for a reason. This very theme is prominent in this amazing must-read book. I've gotta buy the second one now!

Melanie Wells is amazing...
I first read Soul Hunter by Melanie Wells (the second in the
series
) and just loved her writing style. Both of these books are fairly quick reads and very interesting. I couldn't put them down! I highly recommend this author if you are into mysterious style books especially if you believe in demons! Haha
