Enjoyed The Journey!

McFadden has become one of my favorite writers. I believe I've read all of her novels and can't say a bad thing about any of them. A great read here. I didn't even figure out who Dumpling was until the end.

Strikes all the right notes.

McFadden's writing is like musical notes, imagery as mesmerizing
as conductor's wand. Nowhere is a Place brings to mind Octavia Butler's "Kindred" with the juxtaposition of time and place. The plantation scenes are brutal and sadistic; the relationship between the protagonist Sherry and her mom Dumpling were simmering and tense. I had the special treat of listenig to Nowhere is a Place on BBC Books on CDs!

A must read.

Great Book

I love all of Bernice Mcfadden's books. This one was just great. Highly recommend it.

Excellent

Absolutely amazing. Ms. McFadden has proven to be a very talent writer and I enjoyed this book so much. The slavery details were pretty hard to digest but that is part of history and needs to be told. I loved the way she traced the family tree. She did an amazing job and I highly recommend this book. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic

Bernice McFadden is a talented writer whose stories stick with you. I read this one on cd in my car and the reader was amazing, she brought to life these incredible characters with her brilliant rendition. While I've loved all of Ms. McFadden's books, this one felt really special because of the audio. I always felt sad when I arrived at my destination and had to continue listening to the book later. The language and writing style drew me into the story and even though a lot of terrible and unbelievable things happened to these survivors of slavery, the story felt real and true the whole way through.
