Great Stuff!!

I just finished the book and am re-reading the vegetable profile section in the rear. The book written in a clear and concise style (and not devoid of humor either). The book is also well illustrated and photographed. The book presents the garden from the soil on up and leaves no stone unturned. This is a very good book for someone starting out or even for those who have gardened for several seasons. What I found very helpful was the section in back of the book on plant profiles and cultivars. The only drawback to the book is the lack of any mention of fruits (strawberries for example).

Burpee, had taken the style of their seed catalog and mixed in practical advice for your garden. One who is a beginner or an advanced gardener can learn from this guide. It is inspiring to look at and makes you want to get your fingers, green!

It covers the subject thoroughtly

"Complete"is not an overstatement. This volume on organic gardening says it all, is written in a readable and entertaining style, and is beautifully illustrated. As a reference it is as essential to the gardener as a dictionary is to a reader. it's the best gift I've had in years!

Wonderfully written and comprehensive

I can't imagine a better vegetable & herb book to give as a gift or buy for one's own gardening needs! The comprehensive coverage, wonderfully clear and entertaining writing, and stunning photography kept me reading, often about vegetables and herbs I had no intention of growing (or even eating). In addition,I enjoyed how historical and cultural significances were tied in with the practical gardening information. Was anything left out of this complete book? Only several hundred packages of seeds...

One of my favorite gardening reference books

This was my first gardening book purchase and 40+ gardening books later, I still LOVE it. Ever since I my first Burpee catalog came in the mail I've fallen in love with the company and their product. This book will help the novice to the experienced gardener care and harvest a complete range of vegetables. I feel guilty if I drag it out to the garden since this almost a "coffee table" book. The descriptions and pictures give great hope to what your garden can and will be with guidence from this book.
