Extraordinary Creatures, extraordinary book

This book is splendidly printed and produced. I was glad to see that there was just enough text to explain, but not so much as to interfere with the purely visual enjoyment. The creatures we see defy imagination and give one a feeling of exhilaration at the unexpected splendours of biology., Since these creatures can be seen only by deep-sea robots, they are new to our experience. They are beautiful or they are funny or they are just beyond imagining. This is a rich and special book and I was proud to give it as a gift to a friend whose tastes are exquisite.

Beautiful, fascinating book

This gorgeous book provides lots of information on many rare and fascinating types of deep-sea life. The photographs are beautiful and make the book hard to put down.

Very Nice Book

This is a very niuce book about the deep unknown. The photos are clear and amazing.

Amazing color, clarity and creatures

This book is simply stunning. The creatures inhabiting the nether reaches of our deep water are eerie and beautiful. They set the imagination flying, (swimming?) and the accompanying text is an interesting, easy read. I recommend it to nature enthusiasts and artists, poets and scifi writers. It is a gem.

Strange other worlds within our own

This book makes it abundantly clear that within the natural world, the unimaginable is real. Only a fortunate few have access to the wonderful lifeforms of the deep ocean, but the photographs (and limited CG) in this book give the rest of us the opportunity to see these gorgeous and hideous creatures up close and personal. I bought the book as inspiration for a series of paintings, but I'll be looking at it long after the paintings have been completed.

I agree with some other reviewers that more text, to provide background, explanation and perspectives on the future of the deep ocean, would improve the book. Nevertheless, the images alone are an achievement of such magnitude that the book still warrants a five-star rating.
