One of the best books I've ever read
I am in awe of the talent of this husband-wife writing team. The characters are such individuals and the way they wove the stories together--well, this is an incredible book.
People of the Lakes is a powerhouse of a story
As a fellow writer of historical Native American fiction, I found this book to be the best of the series. Growing up on the Great
Lakes
and being of a Native culture, I could not wait to see what happened next. As long as the book was I found I came to the conclusion too fast. I wanted this story to go on. Its detail of the native
people
s of the time showed an exceptional understanding of the cultures and tools of the time. Well done.

ABSOLUTELY MOVING!
I have read (11) books in this series. This one
People
of the
Lakes actually
made me cry. Not only do they give us the most amazing history of these great people but the characters have so much depth to them. I cannot remember reading a book of where people were willing to sacrifice their lives for another and for the most basic reason of love. The Gears have written a beautiful history for people to enjoy and every book I have read has wonderful characters and always has a great plot. They leave nothing for you to wonder about later. All of their books have a more than satisfying ending and as I said before with this particular book leave you with a wonderful feeling of how great it is for people who care about others besides themselves. Anyone who has not read any of their books is causing themselves to miss many hours of wonder, adventure and history.

Great Story
I wanted to get an idea of how they lived in my area and I got much more. I had hoped for more on how the moundbuilders lived and constructed sich great mounds such as Cahokia. Sometimes, when you are looking for one thing you discover something else. Long story, but a good one. I developed a great care and feeling for the fate of each character in the story. Some suffered dearly, however, this was paleo-life.
People of the Lakes
This is book is one of the best I have read this year. This is an epic tale and one that begs for a screenplay or a script. I cannot imagine why Hollywood has not taken this story and told it on the big screen. It would make a great motion picture. After having read it you will never look at great bodies of water, deep forests, rainbows, or crows, the same way again.
