Yellow Brick Road to Everything You Always Wanted to Know about the Wizard of Oz!

This is an excellent book, containing the complete original text of the 1900 addition, copious notes, all the original illustrations (I had never seen them--the books I grew up with, ca 1948-54, had illustrations "based" on the originals--not really close) and the whole story of the book's production, including details of both author and illustrator. There are photographs of both, and their families, places of residence, and other manifestations of the Wizard in theatre and film. I loved this book! I especially loved the illustratiions, reproduced in full color, and all the fascinating detail of how the story came to be and its continual rebirth. This Annotator is the same one who did the Annotated Huckleberry Finn, which I also recommend very highly. My appreciation of the Wizard (and Huckleberry) was increased dramatically, along with my knowledge of what went into the making of this classic. If you like to know what goes on "behind the scene" in the making of a great book, get this one!

Wizard of Annotations

Three books in one. 1) The original story with all the original illustrations reproduced exactly as appeared in the first edition (this is the only re-production edition available). 2) A 102 page literary history with extensive biography of Baum and his works and illustrator Denslow. 3) Extensive annotated notes.

Michael Hearn is the wizard of annotations and this is just one in a series he has done including The Christmas Carol and Huckleberry Finn. The factual detail is dense, but always relevant and interesting. Oz may be a "kids story" but this is serious adult entertainment.

Run, run as fast as you can

Just think, how would you feel if you were in the middle of a twister? Wait, not just any twister, a twister that can take you to a land you have only seen in you dreams? Well, in The Wizard of Oz this precise thing happened to a girl named Dorothy. She was always trustworthy and loving. She lived on a farm with her aunt and uncle. Her dog Todo ran into their house and Dorothy desperately ran after him. That is when everything went berserk.

The twister tossed the house that they were in to a land. The land was called Oz. There she meets a witch, a good witch. This witch gave Dorothy ruby slippers that were very special. Dorothy then sets off for her long walk to the wizard's house. Along the way she meets a lot of friends. They are the Tinman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. She also will be terrorized by the nasty, evil witch. The witch wants Dorothy's slippers to make herself the most powerful witch in Oz.

What will Dorothy do? Will she make it to the wizard? Will she ever get home? What about the witch? I guess you will have to read the book to find out.

The Wonderful Annotated Oz

As an avid fan of all things Oz, when I came across this in a book store I HAD to have it (along with annotated Alice) and I've never been so thrilled with a book purchase! I relived all of the speldor that is The Wizard of Oz, the books I used to read when I was in middle school. It's still an immense pleasure to read even today, a Senior in High School.

A welcome edition to fans young or old. Get this on your bookcase, as soon as possible!
