Garrett's Great Review

This book is about a kid named Jay Berry Lee. His hound, Rowdy, treed a monkey. He goes to his grandpa's store, and his grandpa gives him traps. They fail. So he goes to his grandpa's store again. He tries to make friends with the monkey, and Jimbo gets him drunk. "Mama," yelled Daisy, "Jay Berry is drunk!" When he wakes up, his britches are lost. A storm hits, and Jimbo follows him home. Will Jay Berry get the money? I recommend you read this book, because it's exciting.

A wonderful, delightful book!

This is a wonderful story for readers of any age. Jay Berry's dreams of catching the wiley monkeys and winning the reward money combines delightfully with his various escapades in attempting to catch them. If ever a book can be rip-roaring hilarious and heartwarming at the same time, this one is it. This story also has some positive themes in it - the importance of family and working hard for what you want, and the ending (I won't give it away) is absolutely perfect.
The only complaint I have about this story is that, although Daisy and Jay Berry are supposed to be twins, their behavior doesn't quite match up to their ages. While Jay Berry acts very much like a fourteen-year-old boy, Daisy acts more like a ten-year-old. How many fourteen-year-old girls do you know who have a play house, have imaginary friends like the Old Man of the Mountains, and play nurse - complete with the outfit?
Other than that, I think this is one of the best stories I've ever read, and it certainly makes a fine addition to any home library.

Richard's Monkey's Review

Summer of the Monkeys
In this book a boy lived in Teleqa, OK. One day his dog treed a monkey, and after it took place he ran home to tell his ma and pa. They were astonished.
Then he went down to his grandpa's store! His grandpa was very surprised also. Grandpa said, "I got a letter from the circus. There are 28 monkeys that cost $2.00 but one costs $100.00." Then the boy said, "Why does the one costs so much?"" Then the boy went back home to tell his family about the money. Then one day there was a big storm. After the storm his sister discovered a ferry ring. Two days after that he went down to the place were his dog treed the monkey. They were scared of the storm. He got them to follow him home. I think this book is for 9 years old to 80 years old.
