What Rick Cowan did was amazing. He put everything on the line to bring down the MOB, which was costing NYC business ownes millions. GREAT BOOK GREAT STORY

He is brazen, brash, street savvy, and unconventional. How else could he, an Irish-American with blue collar pedigree, be able to immerse himself in the inner sanctums of the Mob as Danny Benedetto? That is what you, the reader, will find out as he takes you on a thrill-a-minute ride through the New York underbelly, his life always in danger as he manages to stay one step ahead of a gang of thugs who make many of "The Sopranos" characters seem like choirboys. You will not be able to put this book down.

As Good As They Say!

I just finished reading Takedown: The Fall of the Last Mafia Empire, and I agree with all who talk about how great this book is. I eagerly read it in two days, and could not wait to finish it. The story is interesting, exciting, nailbiting at times, and as ironic as real life. It is well told, which is often hard to find in the recount of an actual event. Most importantly, having grown up in the New York City area, I too know what the real wiseguys look and act like - and this book gets them down accurately. Great thanks to those brave enough to end this monopoly, and thank you to Cowan and Century for telling us how it was done.

Riveting; An Eye Opener

An excellent and enjoyable read. This book brings the Mafia out of the dark and into the spotlight. With the knowledge gained from this book, red flags may rise the next time you visit Omaha or Chicago. After reading this book, you'll never be the same person again. God bless you for your work Mr.Cowan...and God bless all the Mr.Cowans out there putting in eighteen hour days to keep this country safe.

LCN Busted!

In case you haven't guessed from the other reviews this is a great book. I read it almost nonstop, and I have a very short attention span. Lots of tense moments, detailed history, and of course the big bust at the end. A real page-turner. Plus the glossary of mob terms in the back has really helped me to understand many expressions used by Curtis Sliwa.
