Rucka at his best!

It's amazing how suspense/thriller and Batman comic book writer Greg Rucka can take a secondary character and throw that person into the spotlight and the reader on to their ears.

Enter Bridgett Logan: private eye and former flame of bodyguard Atticus Kodiak. When Bridgett's friend Lisa gets threatened by an ex-boyfriend/drug dealer, Bridgett devises a plan to keep him away from Lisa. Mere weeks later the dealer winds up dead, and Lisa is the only suspect, thrusting Bridgett to accept who she is and dive feet first back into the heroin scene that almost killed her ten years ago. And then she goes missing...

An amazing book. Rucka adds depth to all of the characters and a story that has many twists and unexpected turns. I highly recommend this book to any suspense fans out there!! Must read!

Rucka's Best So Far

Greg Rucka wisely shifts the focus of his fourth novel form boyscout bodyguard Atticus Kodiak to tough gal PI Bridgett Logan. While Kodiak is part of the story, this is Bridgett's book and Rucka makes this loud, brassy, somewhat vioelnt femme into a far more intriguing hero than Kodiak could ever be. The plot is a little thin in spots, but it's really an excuse to explore where Logan came from and why she's the way she is. There are moments when I couldn't stop reading and monents where it got so intense that I had to. The only major flaw with the book is that Rucka doesn't quite know how to end it. This seems to be a recurring theme of his career, both in the novels and the comics he writes, but he's getting better with each new work.

Defintely recommended for Rucka fans, crime novel readers, and suspense fans.

RUCKA "SHOOTS" AND SCORES - BIG TIME.

Wow. That was my reaction upon the completion of this book. I had previously read Rucka's KEEPER, FINDER and SMOKER novels, all starring his terrific bodyguard character, Atticus Kodiak (who is also a major part of this book), and knew that this book starred Atticus' previous girlfriend Bridget. What I didn't know was that within about 50 pages of the book, Rucka would cause my jaw to hit the floor in disbelief, as he takes this previously carefree character and exposes us to her true self, which can be incredibly disturbing and heart-wrenching at times. I have never seen one of the main characters of a writer arsenal go through a more difficult hell, and never has it been so well versed and attention grabbing. This is a truly spectacular book, and one that will expose those of us who are not closely familiar with the many varied hells of addition, to dealing with it head-on. Great stuff and HIGHLY recommended. Go RUCKA!

His DC comics BATMAN work is terrific as well!

By Tim Huffman, author of SLAVER'S CHALLENGE

A fine piece to add to the world of Atticus Kodiak. Rucka has a deft touch in the evocation of the mean streets and the ways of the shadows who inhabit them. I enjoyed and was pleasantly surprised by the narrative devices that he employed and was pleased in how he brought them off. I won't tell you anything about the book or the plot itself, but just note that it is a well crafted work, daring in several ways and an excellent read. Bring on the next one!

Made of Duct Tape?

I picked this up in an Airport, having been familiar with and a fan of Rucka's comic book work (Whiteout). I read it straight through on the plane and could not put it down! It grabbed me and didn't let go. The characters were rich and detailed, the plot kept me guessing, and the overall aesthetic of the book made me a firm fan of Greg Rucka.
