When life gives you tomatoes, make tomatoe juice

With humility and grace that is not something you always find in business men, Phil takes you on the journey from conception, to the unfortunate ending of an empire. He does it in such a way you can still walk away from the book with a smile though because you know that God is not done with Phil yet, not by a long shot.

Much as Veggie Tales pushed the animation edge and proved amazingly successful, his new projects should be just as inspiring and enrapturing of the imagination.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in Christian Business because it is a good "what to do" and "what not to do" book. You will learn from his painful mistakes, and learn how to make a great business that is bult to last.

No words . . . just gratitude

I'm a pastor in a medium to large sized congregation. As a huge fan of VeggieTales I found this book during one of my precious days off and thought I would have a giggle. Little did I know it would remind me what ministry is really about, that admin work is incredibly important, and to watch out for that ego!
Truly, there are no easy words to describe the depth of the gift that is within this honest and hope filled story. I am so grateful that Phil was willing to share this story of death and resurrection. I am already sharing it with members of my congregation and, together, we're finding so much to learn about . . .
Thank you, Phil. If you ever read this . . . you've touched and inspired more lives than you know. Thank you for reminding me to flow on the currents of God's love and inspiration.

Witty Style Hides Serious Business Book

If you are expecting the autobiography of a creative genius that went from a hand-and-mouth, fly-by-night company to great success only to go bust, this book is not full of all the business and financial details or the how to be a manager stuff most business books are. Instead it is much better. The writing style is light with lots of jokes. But the last chapters on "why" God let "the next Disney" fail with the assets of Big Idea being sold at auction are full of a deep, inward look at what a real CEO of a Christian company should be and what are really God's ideas about our big ideas. I run a successful, but small high-tech manufacturing company. I bought the book for a friend whos service business is in trouble, thinking it would encourage him. Well, you don't send a book like this unless you read it. And am I glad I did. It has helped me more than books on management styles, marketing and finance, and that is saying something considering my company has been used as an illustration of how to do it in some of these books including a college textbook. Needless to say, I kept the copy I read for my library, have handed it around my management team and have had to buy a replacement copy for the friend. So if you are looking for something to make you think and that will change how you manage, get this. The back part of this book is worth more than one reading. It is a Christian perspective we in business need to hear. Oh, and a CD of Larry's Silly Songs is not a bad addition or watching the DVD or video of Madam Blueberry. These are good representations of the products the author created. So don't be surprised if someday you find yourself humming a stupid tune and singing, "Oh, where is my hairbrush?" Just remember the lessons of this book and keep a focus on what is important.

Life Changing***

I guess it is a phrase that is overly used - "life changing". But I truly find Phil's aftermath with God life changing. I learned more in this book than reading tens of theology books. No wonder Jesus often use real life examples to teach his audience.

Every time when I feel like to have to make a mark on this world, I need to re-read the last few chapters of this book. Wow, the Lord really uses this book to change my life.

Inspiring

I bought this for my husband for Christmas last year and he totally enjoyed this book. I have not had a chance to read it myself, but he could really understand where Phil Vischer was coming from. He even loaned it to his best friend!
