Cold Eyes: There lies a secret of 25 years!
What a pleasant surprise. This book is not just a techno-thriller as I once perceived. What I like about it is the SUSPENSE, the EMOTION and the colorful PROSE that kept me turning the page.
Set in a high-tech industry in Silicon Valley, Joanne Gravitz, a computer security expert for a top-notch firm OmegaSoft is hired by the FBI to map the location of the hacker's source of activities. A hacker whom investigators believe is also the murderer of the prominent Stanford researcher, Dr. Russell, who is found dead somewhere near the beach in Northern California. His body is found the day he is to reveal his medical breakthrough worldwide. Shortly after, it's discovered that his wife's computer is also compromised, and the website is altered.
Joanne uses her latest software,
Cold
Eyes
, that is developed by her team including her boss Frank Tilton, and Stephan Smythe, the guru of cryptography. Unfortunately, the source of hacker's activities pinpoint to a familiar location, to a mansion own by Frank Tilton, the CIO of OmegaSoft. Joanne visits his house and discovered that one of Stanford's beloved surgeon, Dr. Robert Jacobsen, is also leaving in the same house. Dr. Jacobsen was the doctor who saved Joanne's life after a near fatal accident and with whom she is falling in love. But Joanne must find an answer. Time is of an essence for another murder had occurred and Dr. Russell's wife is kidnapped.
Frank Tilton-a high-tech visionary and well known in the high-tech world, Stephan Smythe-her trusted colleague, and Bob Jacobsen-the love of her life. A twist: Tilton died in a plane crash and another character emerged--Gene Caruzo-wealthy business entrepreneur whom Russell's wife, Dr. Dobbins, long time friend sent her mail messages. Is he for real?
Who killed the prominent Stanford researcher Dr. Russell? And why? Pay attention to those eyes, for there lies the SECRET that is kept for 25 years.

Suspenseful: A good look inside a corporate world!
I really like Romina Wilcox's depiction of her characters. I'd say I could honestly sympathize and relate to her heroin, Joanne Gravitz. Very real and it seems I have experience many of her dilemmas, fell in-love the way she did, and thought the same in many ways. No doubt
Cold
Eyes
is written by a female author. There is a mystery, suspense, fast-action, love-story, technology, ALL IN ONE.
Added to the well developed characters is a well written plot, very suspenseful, with a very unpredictable ending. I wasn't able to figure out that one. Not a far-fetched story, but very realistic, and fast-paced. It makes you think and the suspense heightened as the story unravels. I am currently employed in a large corporation, dealing with people from all walks of life with various cultural backgrounds and values; Cold Eyes is a depiction of those many characters. This book gives one a good look inside the fast-paced corporate world. After finishing Cold Eyes, Romina Wilcox left me hungry for more of her novels. Here is another addition to my list of favorite authors.

I really liked it

I really liked
Cold
Eyes
. I expected a reference to the characters' eyes and it was there--sad, happy, loving, and of course evil.
I admired the strength and brilliance of Joanne--although she did some kooky things, I realized how that was necessary to the plot. I was glad she wasn't leaping into bed--I felt she earned stature and admiration from all the men with whom she worked.
I like the technique or parallel plots (that's my term--I don't know what you author types call it). The segue between chapters and subchapters was easy to follow.
I read it in a day and a half. Actually, I had to take two time-outs to feed the horses--they get noisy and obnoxious when food is late. But then I was right back to Cold Eyes. I thank you!
I figured out the villain before the end. So what? I enjoyed all of the book.
Your descriptors of place/setting were good. I particularly remember on page 180 under the morgue and page 179 the crash site. These are just two of many. I could see meeting rooms, cafés, and dilapidated houses--oh, I almost forgot--when the plane blew up I could almost feel it.

Realistic (not a fairy tale)
Cold
Eyes
is a work of fiction with many hard facts. It is a multicultural, with many types of personalities, and it covers many angles that I could write about.
With its many twists and turns, this book kept me guessing and deprived my sleep. Romina Wilcox did a great job in keeping the identity of the villain, but most importantly, I was shocked when the motive was revealed. Cold Eyes was a software developed by Joanne Gravitz to catch the location of the hacker's activities. A hacker whom investigators believed was also responsible for the murder of the prominent researcher, Dr. Brett Russell the day he was to reveal his medical breakthrough. But, there was another meaning to this title relative to the color of the antagonist eyes which had something to do with the secret that Dr. Dobbins (the wife of Dr. Russell) kept for many years. The story was complicated but I found it enjoyable.
I truly enjoyed reading every character in this book, particularly the central protagonist, Joanne Gravitz. Romina developed an interesting character and the strength of the story lies in this beautiful, intuitive, educated woman who fell in love to a handsome doctor.(another angle) She was glamorous yet practical, strong yet vulnerable. She was a woman of complexities whose life (both in love and in career) were realistic and not a fairy tale.

No guns, no knives, only computers.
This book is really enjoyble, I wish I amt he one who wrote it. It is full of complicated twists, hair-raising suspense, no violent bloody crime, no profanities, no kinky sex scene, but still keeps you entertained and engaged. I am not into computer but the way this story was told kept at the edge of my seat, and awake all night. I suppose we shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
The story started out in mystery. A prominent researcher was found dead the day he was supposed to reveal his research: a medical breakthrough. His laptop was stolen, the computer in his Stanford lab was hacked. Just when I thought I guessed right who the hacker was, he died in a plane crash. I was left no choice but the suspect the handsome doctor whom the protagonist was beginning to fall in love with. Romina Wilcox's Flawless character development allows the reader to become Joanne Gravitz, a beautiful and intelligent computer security expert hired by the FBI to find the murderous computer hacker. As if that is not enough to pick us, we get to be loved by a handsome Dr. Jacobsen. The characters in
Cold
Eyes
are complex, real and enjoyable. Using the author's own career experience, she sets up a problem that explores the potential of cyber crime- a new and quite possible threat to business and intellectual property. The reader is also given a free trip to Northern California.
The revelation of the motive was shocking. I didn't guess that one. But it was a very pleasant surprise.
