30 years later....
30 years later, this is the one children's book that stuck with me. Sure, I can remember books like the Cat in the Hat or Fox in Socks, but the only children's book that made a lifelong impact was Mr.
Pine's
Purple
House
. The book taught me the value of my own individuality, the beauty of my own creativity and even to perservere when misunderstood.
Now that I have my own children, I will enjoy reading it to them over and over and over!
Thank you Mr. Kessler for this beautiful book.

Still great after all these years!
This was one of my favorite books as a child. Now that I am 33 and have kids of my own, I bought it for them. My 5 year old loves it and I recently started reading it to my 2 year old and she has me read it almost every night before bed. I looked for other books by Kessler and was surprised to find there are 2 more Mr.
Pine books
out there. I just ordered those today. Hopefully my children will enjoy them as much as they have enjoyed this one. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that has little kids.
Childhood Memories
This is a book I wished my mom had saved. I think Mr.
Pine Fan's
are a unique brand of people! My cousin and I both grew up with Mr. Pine's
Purple
House
. It taught us to be different from anyone else. We joke about the book often, even now, when we drive down a street with all the houses looking the same. "Must be Vine Street!" It's fun to see the looks on other friends faces when they can't figure out what we are talking about. Then we have to explain ourselves, and the retell the whole story.

A favorite
This was one of my favorite books when I was a child, and my 4-year-old loves it. It's about non-conformity in an increasingly homogeneous world. When it was written in the 60's, cookie-cutter Levittown style development had taken over most everywhere. The simple 2 color (black &
purple
of course) illustrations are retro and charming in this age of glitzy full color. Of course, our hero Mr.
Pine also
paints signs...
