Perspective

With a multitude of books being released on the market everyday, it is rare to find a really good book to read anymore. Passionate Housewives is a really good book for Christian women to read and really ponder. This book clarified the meaning of biblical womanhood. I immediately identified with the young mother in the opening scenario of chapter one. She had a lot of little children, a husband, and a home to care for but what she really wanted was "me" time. That was my mindset when my own children were small. It is the mindset of all the young mothers that I know today. If I had the wise counsel of women like Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald back when my children were small it would have saved me much angst over thinking I didn't have enough "me" time. I think this book is so important that my husband, a pastor, and I have ordered several of them for the ladies in our church.

Excellent book for women!

This book is based SOLIDLY on God's word. It is inspiring, challenging and an interesting read from beginning to end. I would love to read more from these authors!

Encouraging for wives & mothers

Passionate Housewives is a book that will pick you up and make you feel very proud to be a woman. It rekindled a desire in me to serve my husband and children, and to take the best care of my home. I feel very strongly about taking care of my family, and this book gave me quite a boost!

I did disagree with some of their writing on young ladies going to college. I don't think that it is a bad idea to stay at home and help with your family. But I don't think that women going off to school is a horrible thing either. They made it sound like every "christian" college is going to encourage their students to become feminists. They have obviously not done their research very well in that area. I attended a bible college that encourage women to be wives and mother and to serve God with all of their hearts. Some classes I took were "Marriage and Motherhood", and "Christian Womanhood". These were very good classes teaching to be biblical women, never feminist. I also met my husband there whom I have been married to for over seven years and have two children with.

Most everything else in the book was just fine. I would highly recommend it to any woman, whether they stay at home or not. It is very informative in the area of feminism and what it has done to society.

Passionate Housewives Desperate for God

This book is very helpful in so many ways. For one thing, both Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Chancey are spot on in their analysis of where our culture is and where Christian women are at this point in time. Women used to assume that home making was their sacred calling. Now, home making is viewed as almost irrelevant. How much skill does one need to run a home, some reason.

This book dispells many myths about the home maker and about what it means to be a family. It also explains carefully the issues involved in feminist interpretions of Scripture. Mrs. McDonald very kindly says that a feminist can be a Christian, but that there is no such thing as Christian feminism. The two paradigms are mutually exclusive. I heartily agree.

Also, the neo-Gnostic tendencies in feminist theology, even within its Evangelical forms, are clearly exposed.

There is a strong appeal to Christian women for a return to the home making and child bearing role, a woman's sacred calling. Please give this book and its message your consideration.
