Much more than a climbing adventure story . . .

Well written personal account of unbelievable adventure, love story and a couple's ability to over come life threatening illnesses all rolled up into a 294 page account. I manage to read about one book a month. Each November I order several copies of my favorite to give as Christmas gifts . . this one is going to be hard to beat for 2007!

Outstanding!

Outstanding and honest assessment of the worlds highest peaks and the dedication and inner drive it takes to conquer them. And, as a couple. Lots of enjoyable reading.

inspirational and exceptional determination and focus

Unusually written, 2 person perspective. The determination of both Phil and Susan is admirable and something to aspire to emulate. The adventure story is just the surface, the challenges off the mountain are the real inspiration. A must read for mountaineers and anyone who has faced challenges with cancer. A book worht reading.Together on Top of the World: The Remarkable Story of the First Couple to Climb the Fabled Seven Summits

A great climbing and love story

I am also a (repeat) client of Phil's, and Susan was along on one trip as well, so do know them a little. What is great about this book is feeling the love and devotion to each other come through in their words. This book is much more than a collection of climbing memories, it is as Phil says - "A love story". Of course it weaves through Phil's life as a climber, and Sue's as a successful businesswoman, and their partnership in life, in and out of climbing. The climbing stories are fun and interesting (if you know Phil, you know he tells a great story, and if you don't, you should read this book and then go climb Rainier with him), but I loved the story of two people finding each other, what that meant to each of them, the struggles through some rough times, and how through it all they never seemed to lose sight of what was most important.

Have read a lot of climbing books, this is one of the better written ones. It is a complete story, not just random memories and events. Great job Phil and Sue!

Universal Appeal

I wasn't quite sure what to expect out of this book - but what I received was stunning. I have never read a book faster and with more excitement and curiosity. The explanation of events from the two perspectives of Phil and Susan work perfectly together. The book will be an inspiration to all who read it. Whether you have experience with mountaineering or not, it is a HIGHLY recommended read.
