Best book I have read in a while
I absolutely loved this book. Getting the point of view from each person was a great way to learn the emotion & story behind everything.
Another great book from Jodi Picoult
VANISHING
ACTS
by Jodi Picoult
Rating 4/5
February 23, 2008
Another page turning book by Jodi Picoult, VANISHING ACTS tells the story of a woman who learns that her real identity is not who she thinks she is. Delia discovers that her father had kidnapped her when she was around three years old, and since then he had told Delia that her mother was dead. The news comes to her as a shock, learning that she has a mother who she does not remember, and a father that has been lying to her all these years.
Delia is about to be married to the father of her daughter. She has her own business, a search and rescue service. Things were going well but now they are falling apart. Her father is in jail for kidnapping her and has been extradited to another state, Arizona.
Besides the drama surrounding her father's case and the fact that her fiancé Eric has become her father's lawyer, Delia is having problems with her relationship with Eric, mainly because he's keeping her out of the loop. But it's all about client confidentiality, yet Delia feels she's being shut out intentionally.
In the mean time, Andrew, Delia's father, is learning what it is like behind bars and it is not pretty. What he goes through may offend some readers. It's traumatic, it's brutal, but the entire time Andrew insists he plead guilty, while Eric tries to get Andrew to change his mind and plead innocent.
Fitz, Delia's other best friend, does all he can to be supportive. What Delia doesn't realize, is that since they were in school together Fitz has had feelings for her. But he's been the good guy and has kept his distance from her except in the role of a best friend. Delia begins to lean on Fitz more for emotional support, as Eric begins to distance himself.
Eric is also going through some trauma of his own. The case has brought back his drinking problems. As he learns more about Andrew and the woman he had been married to years ago, Eric finds a connection between this life and that of little Delia's, when she was living her first life with her mother and father in Arizona.
Jodi Picoult's books are always riveting and hard to put down. I've never been disappointed by any of her books and was glad I finally picked up VANISHING ACTS.

Vanishing Acts
Jodi Picoult never fails to captivate me. In
Vanishing
Acts
, she pulls me in with a story about the past. Delia Hopkin's father is accused of kidnapping her... 28 years earlier. Delia's world is suddenly turned upside-down as she questions the only life she's ever known.
This book was great... There aren't really words to describe it, except for powerful. It triggered emotions in me that I never would have thought I had. I found myself sympathizing with Delia, even though I don't relate to her much at all.
Worth the read
Lately I have been in search for a good book. Not just a book to read but one that you can't wait to get through yet you wish wouldn't end. For me this book was everything I wanted and more. There is love, there is tragedy, there is surprise, sorrow as well as enlightenment. I loved 'My Sister's Keeper' and 'The Pact' by Picoult but I was disappointed with some of the other books. This book makes me want to seek out the rest of Picoult's books and read them.
Wonderfully written!

Surprisingly Good
After reading some of the reviews that rated this
novel subpar
when compared to her other great works, I was a bit hesitant to begin reading this book. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that, like all of the books by Jodi that I've read previously (e.g., Picture Perfect, Mercy, The Pact, Keeping Faith, My Sister's Keeper, The Tenth Circle, and Nineteen Minutes), this is another gripping story that I loved. I found it to be a very easy read with great issues that were interconnected. If you are a Jodi fan like me, you should love this.
