The second in a good series

The Raintree series continues well in this second novel... quick reading but entertaining. The characters are believeable.

LOVED this whole series...

I LOVED this series that Beverly Barton, Linda Winstead Jones and Linda Howard collaborated on. The creation of a clan of magic wielders, or possessors of magic was a huge hit with me. The Raintree are an ancient group of magic wielders who live among us, and who use their magic only for good. Of course, for all good things there is the evil counterpart...in this case it's the Ansara, a rival clan of magic users who have been decreed "Evil" because of their use of magic for bad things and personal gain. The Raintree and Ansara have warred in the past~~leaving the Ansara crippled and thought to be all but wiped out...the Raintree hadn't dreamed that the Ansara had built up a solid, powerful clan again.
Raintree: Haunted is the second installment in the Raintree series. Gideon Raintree is a homicide detective...who can talk to Ghosts. He has a incredible high success rate because his victims often share their last moments with him. But lately he's been seeing a ghost? or vision of a little girl...Emma, who insists on calling Gideon Daddy. Even though Gideon insists he will never have children...
Gideon's new partner is new homicide detective Hope Malory. Hope is spunky, tough, and determined to make Gideon want her as a partner. Their first case quickly becomes a mystery that ties back into Gideon's Raintree roots...and Gideon and Hope find themselves reluctantly pulled to one another.
I adored this story!! Ms. Jones' use of a Emma as a plot driver was inspired...and adored. This is one of those books you smile throughout, even as you can't wait to turn the next page to see where Gideon and Hope will find themselves threatened next. It's on my keeper shelf, right next to the other two installments of the Raintree saga. Nocturne hit a home run with this series...I could read more and more of these!!

Raintree: Haunted

I enjoyed the conclusion to this series. The first installment was the best in my opinion,however, the ending in this book was clever and amusing.

Really better than INFERNO

I really was much more impressed with this than INFERNO, by Linda Howard whom I have read with enjoyment for years. I ordered the first one and pre-ordered the others even tho' I had never read the other 2 authors. I am glad I did, as I will now buy more by this author! It was a difficult concept to handle with BOTH controlling (or not, depending on your view)electricity, and being able to see and talk to ghosts--but I was impressed with how well it came together, how much I liked Gideon and I got to like Hope well-enough (she went from stereotypical female TV detective, to a quirky, warm woman--whom you really feel will continue to develop and become his partner in work and home--you FEEL that this goess on).

I gave this one 4 stars because it did slide into stereotypy too often, and missed some opportunities to really make her memorable, but was far better than the other 2. I gave INFERNO a 3 (and only because I was giving SANCTUARY a 2! Boy was that one an irritating bore!) I agree that this one is a stand alone book and recommend this one but advise giving the other 2 a miss.
