Fitting End to Triology

Wrapped up the triology with fast paced action and intense visions. Enjoyed the read.

Actually 3 1/2 stars...

This is my first book by Beverly Barton. After the first two in this trilogy I guess my expectations were pretty high, but I found that the story was tougher going for me since the hero was too dominant and the heroine seemed a little soft compared to the other heroines in this series. I might have found it more palatable if these characters came in the second instead of the last story, but I understand the need for the sequence.

Wonderful series...ends perfectly!!

I LOVED this series that Beverly Barton, Linda Winstead Jones and Linda Howard collaborated on. The creation of a clan of magic wielders, or possessors of magic was a huge hit with me. The Raintree are an ancient group of magic wielders who live among us, and who use their magic only for good. Of course, for all good things there is the evil counterpart...in this case it's the Ansara, a rival clan of magic users who have been decreed "Evil" because of their use of magic for bad things and personal gain. The Raintree and Ansara have warred in the past~~leaving the Ansara crippled and thought to be all but wiped out...the Raintree hadn't dreamed that the Ansara had built up a solid, powerful clan again.
The third installment in the Raintree saga features Mercy Raintree, the Guardian of the Raintree Sanctuary, or homeland. She lives with her daughter in a relatively peaceful life. Only suddenly her homeland is being threatened...and could it possibly be by the Ansara man who fathered her child? Mercy has never told anyone the full truth about her daughters father...she herself didn't realize he was Ansara until it was too late. But she is realizing how powerful her daughter is growing...more so each day. And when Judah Ansara happens to show up at the same time that a threat is hovering over Sanctuary, Mercy is torn.
Dranir, or King, Judah Ansara had come to Sanctuary to destroy it...or so he thought. He'd never revealed to Mercy that he was actually Dranir, or most powerful of all Ansara. And when he realizes that he's fathered a child with Mercy, a child who's power knows no bounds, he, too, is torn. How can he be both Dranir and enforce his clans wishes, and father to his child, who shouldn't exsist?? As the threat to Sanctuary becomes a threat to Judah, the story really heats up.
I love Beverly Bartons writing, and this is an excellent showcase of why. It's emotional, it's got a great hero and heroine, you find yourself actually empathizing for the Evil Ansara, and even though she reveals early on who dun it, you can't wait to turn the page to find out what's goin to happen next.

Raintree-sanctuary

I started reading this series because, Linda Howard wrote the first installment. I really enjoyed the first book and decided to try Beverly's addition to this series. I did enjoy her style of story telling and found the whole series very enjoyable.
