a most appreciated gift

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend who lost his copy moving. He learned to bake bread using this book many years ago and went on to become a professional baker. I too had put in my time baking bread back in the seventies when my children were young; and looking through this bread book before I gave it away convinced me I need my own copy. Suffice it to say the receipient had tears in his eyes when he opened his package!

This is a classic for home bakers. The sourdough method is excellent. I used their method seven years ago and have had a starter going ever since. The "Country French Bread," recipe is wonderful.

The world's best bread book

My mom gave me this book when she found out I was making bread. She got it in the 70's when she was visiting the monastary. It makes wonderful bread, and it teaches you how to make bread, and why it behaves as it does. You can not find a better bread book.

classic!

i loved this in the 70s and still do, but my daughter wanted a copy so i found one. it is still my favorite recipe for homemade bread. while it takes longer, it produces good results consistently. i use whole wheat flour mostly and other recipes don't rise as predictably as this. machine recipes come out like door stops with 100% whole wheat, not these.

A Must Have Bread Book

I've owned this book for many years and it, along with Laurel Burch's Bread book, is my best bread book. Besides super bread recipes it has the best-ever whole-wheat pancake recipe along with many muffin,pastry and quick bread recipes. This book won't disappoint.
