Hurrah for Jim Butcher, he does it again!

This book was awesome. Brilliantly written, funny as sin, engaging action and clever plot. Ever have one of those books where you get shamefully attached to the characters? Ever think "Hmmm... actually, ghouls would make an awful lot of sense in this situation?" Ever find yourself thinking that Harry Dresden's explanations of the mechanics of the fae world interacting with (and being steadfastly ignored by) our mortal world make more sense than what's on the evening news? This book draws you in in true Jim Butcher fashion. I can't wait until the next one...
... incidentally, I want to marry Carlos Ramirez...

Wow

Wow.

With every book Jim Butcher releases, his writing just gets better and better.

His characters are some of my favorite of all time, and he doesn't disappoint with "Small Favor."

The Denarians are back. The Knights of the Cross are back. The Sidhe are back.

The only thing missing are the Red Court Vamps. But I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them either.

And Harry finally gets some romance! Woot!

Jim Butcher has become one of my all time favorite authors in Fantasy / Sci-Fi.

Dresden Files Continues Stong

Title Small Favor (The Dresden Files, Book 10)
Author: Butcher, Jim

The Dresden files series is still going strong after 10 volumes. Harry Dresden is a wizard in Chicago, in a fictional world similar to our own...except for such minor matters as the reality of magic, wizards, demons, fairy folk, angels (fallen and otherwise), and the Nevermore, the magical lands that intersect with the real world. Harry is a good guy, but it isn't always easy to tell who's on the side of good, or even what the good is. Often Harry is faced with difficult choices, such as two good things being mutually exclusive, or NO good options, or options in which some things are good and some are bad. Rather like reality, in fact.

The hardest part of the series to believe is that Harry is always called upon to save the world against almost impossible odds. He always comes through with the help of preparation, thinking ahead, imagination, courage, and the help of other people with the same qualities.

In this case the fallen have conspired to kidnap the Archive, a young girl who holds humanity's collective memory and is immensely powerful. If they can break her, well, the world is in danger AGAIN.

Overall, a really good series, and a really good entry in the series. And, oh, by the way, a whole field of raspberries to the SciFi Channel for canceling the TV series based on the books. That was a Bad Decision.

Small Favorable

I've read all of the Dresden series and I think Butcher gets better as he goes. This one fits comfortably in the fantasy-detective-noire genre, is excellently paced, sprinkles in references to pop culture that give the characters a "real" feel, and the dialog made me laugh out loud more than a few times. Can't wait for the next one!
