LIKE SPENDING A GREAT DAY WITH A GOOD FRIEND

I happen to live in Los Angeles, but with no designs on acting or necessarily being in the business. But I know what an impenetrable and tough town this is to tackle. All I can say is that if I was in the position of wanting to break into show business, this book would be like having the best friend out here you may never find. It exudes companionship and practical advice in equal measure. This book can be read in one enjoyable sitting, so for anyone who's having a non-day in terms of auditions, leads, classes or a part-time job -- do yourself a favor and pick up this book. You'll definitely feel like you just did something to help your career and you will absolutely feel better about your goals, ambitions and plans. Possibly because for the first time you'll finally have defined them!

12 Step Plan to Success

Having been in the arts for many years, I found this book extremely helpful. It could not have been more clear and easy to follow. Most significantly, most of the tips were real and incredibly practical. It stands apart in that sense from other books that purport to cover the same areas. I especially enjoyed the monthly worksheets, as I learned both more about myself and my goals. I would recommend this to anyone.

Tinsel Me!

There are many books about cracking the code to air-tight worlds of media. Publishing, Fashion, music, movies, TV. There are similarities between each and you can usually gleen a few nuggets of insight from them. What I appreciated most about this book is its over-arching organization. There is a flow to it; a logical progression. I'm not in AA, but I imagine there are similarities between the precarious nature of being a recovering addict and taking the leap of faith into the life of an artist or performer. The 12 steps outlined here are ones you use as guideposts; something to hold on to and refer back to again and again when you are uncertain what to do next. If you slip up in a step, you simply back up correct it later.

I'd love to be a star and I'll work my ass off for it. But this book doesn't promise that. It's simply a guide to becoming a working professional in the epicenter of an extremely competitive industry. It's worth a read.
