A must-read for everyone!

This book is truly amazing - I think it should somehow be required reading for everyone. A rather difficult & uncomfortable read, nevertheless it is important information that simply can't be ignored in today's society. He discusses, in sometimes graphic detail, violent crime today & how to avoid being a victim of it. Implementing his recommendations is not for the faint of heart, but then again, neither is being violently attacked. While I recommend it for everyone, I give a special recommendation for women, those who know women, those who have women in their family or those who have any contact with women. Give it as gifts to those you love, buy it & loan it to those you like, recommend it to those you don't care much for. Get the picture?

An astonishing book

Sanford Strong's uniquely titled book is unique in yet another way: it communicates an entire theory of self-defense using terms, ideas, and tactics that most people would not have ordinarily used in explaining why and how they should defend themselves from attack.
Strong shows--correctly--that most attacks are carried out by recidivists whose one goal (apart from the obvious) is to get away with their crime as cleanly as possible after committing it. This usually involves getting rid of witnesses: yep, you! In so doing, Strong has dispelled a strong myth (usually espoused by the mainstream media and some police persons) concerning attacks and self-defense. Passivity will get you killed, he says. Another myth dispelled early on is thinking that training in a martial arts programme will usually suffice to defend oneself. He correctly points out that most martial arts programmes require many years of dedicated study. Time that most people do not have.
He goes on to outline the steps he recommends anyone faced with armed (or unarmed) attack should take to safeguard themselves. His system is simplicity itself and does not require intense reflection, the best sort. Illustrative stories of ordinary people who were faced with attack and some of the things they did right or wrong pepper the book and is used very effectively to show his system in action.
I heartily recommend this book and urge everyone to study it from cover to cover. A most important work.

Serious, serious stuff

As serious as an attack on your life. Regardless of whether you're a soccer mom or an Ahnold replica with an AR-15, you are likely to have some misconceptions about how to handle being attacked. Those misconceptions can get you killed.

Strong's goal is to get your mindset right for surviving. He is in your face about doing this, using real-life examples to teach and mincing no words. It's by no means a light or pleasant read, but it is a necessary one.

Not everyone is ready for Strong's book, but until you are ready for it, you are not ready to survive.

Serious thoughts about personal safety

I've read many books on different approaches to self-defense, but this one impressed me because of its focus on mental preparedness. The no-nonsense, "this is what you are going to experience" orientation is very sobering, and the case studies, with the after-the-fact analyses, were enlightening. This book could well change your life. Your physical conditioning, size, skill with weapons or fighting style pale to the importance of your mind set. Please do yourself a favor and read this book.

Will you spend 11 bucks if it could save your life?

Then buy this book today, right now as a matter of fact. I teach self defense to women and this book is required reading. Everybody thinks protecting yourself is about punching or kicking, but that's only a small part. Mindeset is everything, and having workable plans is everything.

This book is full of practical advice, and startling examples. Buy it, read it , re-read it. I also highly recommend Gavin DeBecker's "the Gift of Fear".
