Clear concise writing and deep insight makes for a 'killer' book

What sets Gerry apart is his incredibly clear and concise style of writing. This makes it so much easier to convey often complex subjects in a manner that everyone can understand and - the reason for reading any book - act upon.

If this skill is then linked with a deep, no-nonsense insight into the subject matter, that's when we start using the phrase 'killer'. So what's in the title is also in the book, and I'm not talking about the content per se.

The book spends the necessary amount of space on theory, but then dives right into practice - the stuff that matters most when it comes to website content.

For many years Gerry has been preaching the importance of putting readers of the website first, whereas the focus still is too much on those producing its content. With this book he now drives the message right home and makes it available to an audience who hasn't been faithfully following his New Thinking newsletter.

In the book Gerry provides numerous examples on good and bad content design and layout, explaining how it should be done and what effect the change would have on the reader's experience. He also covers other critical aspects like blogs, content structure, organisation search engine optimisation, and what he calls 'carewords'.

This is not a thick book. But looks are deceptive. Through his concise style of writing Gerry manages to pack a lot of content into very little space, something that I've really only seen before in Charles Haanel's Master Key System. That comparison, for all who know the Master Key System, is a great honour.

With Killer Web Content Gerry walks the talk. It's a book with an extremely high take-home value. It's not written for the basement geek, but for the ordinary manager whose task it is to manage the company's website. We all know about the importance of that task, and with this book Gerry has managed to bring those managers closer to the light, making it more likely for good websites to be developed and managed. The end result of that is a more profitable organisation because of a more satisfied reader or visitor to the website. In short: good websites lead to satisfied visitors, which leads to longer visits on the site, which leads to a higher chance of closing a sale. Mission accomplished.

My only gripe is that I didn't particular like the colourful presentation of the book. That was a bit too much for me, distracting a little from the amazing content itself. Still, 5 stars for Gerry McGovern's Killer Web Content.

McGovern is a master

Gerry is a content strategy impresario. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak or teach you will see what a master showman and educator he is. He makes content matter by finding the best of examples of how bad content fails and good content wins. This book is the physical manifestation of his greatest teachings--highly practical and entertaining at the same time. Professionals involved in creating web-based content of any kind should read this book.

Valuable for both website owners and web professionals

Most websites either focus on the graphics or technology - without taking the time to develop good content. Gerry's book covers all the bases on how to write great web content with good examples of dos and don'ts. This is a very readable book and valuable for both website owners and web professionals.

A must read for anyone who wants their website to have "stickability"

Gerry writes like he speaks - forthright and lucid. His use of examples to illustrate his ideas play very well. I find myself constantly referring to "Killer Web Content" when working with clients or students and the sections on Personas are particularly apposite for anyone looking to build a website for specific target groups.
