20 minutes well spent.

This is a good book for your children to read, in the sense that it has a good lesson within it's text. Your children can learn about telling the truth. A good idea to do while (or after) reading this story to your child, is to explain to them that they can tell you anything. You don't want your kids keeping secrets from you.

The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.

Teaching kids about telling the truth is often a hard thing to do. Usually, by the time the subject comes up, it's already too late - the lie has been told, figured out, punishment has been handed down, etc. Why not use this delightful little fable to open up a dialogue about the topic before it gets out of control?

such a good book

I love the illustration in this book a lot and it teaches a good lesson about how you must always tell the truth. These series always instilled good values in families.

" I will never punish you if you tell the truth"

The Berenstain books were for many years favorites in our house. This particular one has a memory connection because as a child we had an incident similar to one here;a valuable thing broken by the children, and the children's dilemna of lying or telling the truth about it.
Mama Bear here did her job well in handling this incident but was sad about it. My own beloved mother of blessed memory said those immortal words :"I will never punish you if you tell the truth.Telling the truth is what is most important."
This is another Berestain book which all the family can read and enjoy.

One of the Best Berenstain Bear Books - The Truth

This is one of the best Berenstain Bear stories. In this book Brother and Sister begin to play soccer in the house without thinking about the ramifications. After they break Mama's favorite lamp it's too late, of course, and so when Mama comes in from shopping they quickly hide the offending ball behind a chair and begin to tell a tall tale about what happened.

The truth comes our when Papa notices the ball and questions the cubs again. And this is the one problem that I have with the story. I would have rather that the cubs had come to their own decision to tell the truth without having their hand forced first.

Still, the book *does* say that "... the thing that really made it hard the second time [to tell the truth - my note] was how very sad Mama looked as she picked up the pieces of the broken lamp." Which is pretty good stuff.

Five Stars. Excellent price and good read-aloud. Though it is called a "First Time Book" it is not a primer. In fact some pages have over 50 words. See above text for example of reading level.
