EXCELLENT!

I initially ordered two of these as gifts for women younger and less experienced in the kitchen than myself. Upon looking through the book, I was so impressed that I immediately placed an order for a third - for myself. I've been cooking for forty years, but there is truly something in this book for everyone!

Comprehensive group of recipes

I would grade this cookbook above average just because of the sheer volume of recipes. However, many of the recipes are standard and not always very imaginative. I enjoyed reading the book however, and think any serious home cook would want to have a copy.

An all-time great cookbook--a "must have."

Both a neighbor and I have this book--we both agree that we have not found one "bad" recipe. Very helpful are the section primers--cookies, bread, etc. which help with common baking problems. This has become one of my most frequently used cookbooks.

Baking/Flour Chemistry 101-- Creative Inspiration

This book covers everything to do with flour and does it well! A great book for the individual who wants to expand their horizons from following a recipe to modifying it or creating their own. The whys and how-tos of baking are thoroughly discussed, and the basic "chemistry" of baking is explained. I pull this book off the shelf everytime I want to explore a new baking technique, especially when it has anything to do with pastry. The recipes contained within are good, but the inspiration this book provides to explore your own creativity is phenomenal.

Wonderful baking book for the novice and the pro

Yet again King Arthur has outdone itself. This is the friendliest book on baking I have ever read. Unlike some other cookbooks that will go unnamed, this book is not intimidating to the novice and it encourages experimenting to challenge the most seasoned of bakers. Every bread product you could ever imagine is included (who thought you could make english muffins from scratch?!)and as well as other wonderful treats. Every recipe I have tried has been tasty, easy and fun. This book is truly inspiring!
