One of the best

Revenge of a mad man! Only this time, his tool is a powerful computer. Cold Eyes opens up with the finding of a corpse. A body of a man who apparently discovered a medical breakthrough to change the world was found dead the day he was suppose to give a presentation to the whole world. His name was Dr. Brett Russell, a prominent Stanford researcher. His years of medical research were all corrupted, laptop was stolen, all the while a daughter was about to be wed. The death sent shockwave all over the world. "Why?" Marianne asked herself. Has anyone uncovered her secret of 25 years?

A murder, a cybercrime has been committed. Joanne Gravitz was hired to pinpoint the location of this perpetrator who called himself CyberGod. Using her software, Cold Eyes, she could trace the source of CyberGod's activities. Unfortunately, it points to an equally respectable surgeon at Stanford who happens to be the one who saved her life and who she was falling in love. A modern Romeo and Juliet! If that's not complicated enough, a visit to Tilton mansion, the CIO of the company she was working for revealed that the handsome surgeon was a guess at his mansion. Another colleague, Stephan Smythe, who has been dating the daughter of Dr. Russell, began transforming his appearance. Dr. Russell was against their relationship. All three men were suspects. Romina Wilcox did a great job keeping the identity of CyberGod until the end.

Cold Eyes is a very complex story, but I found myself into the story, I couldn't put the book down. For a while, I had become the detective trying to solve the puzzle. Furthermore,I got an inside peek of the daily grind in the high-tech world and medical field. What a good blend: a medical breakthrough combined with cyberspace.

Cold Eyes is a MUST READ!

Cold Eyes by Romina Wilcox is one of the most refreshing suspense novels on the market today. Wilcox effectively builds three dimensional characters and weaves an unpredictable plotline that will keep you guessing until the very end. Heroine, Joanne Gravitz, is a strong, appealing woman with enough vulnerability to enable the reader to identify with her humanity. Like Sue Grafton's heroine, Kinsey Milhone, Joanne Gravitz is a character that is substantial enough to star in a series of suspense novels. This reader is certainly eager to see Gravitz surface again.

Another of Wilcox's strengths as an author is her ability to effectively write in different characters' points of view, both masculine and feminine, without jolting the reader. She capably shows us the entire cast of Cold Eyes' characters and makes them quite believable. There is never a dull moment in Cold Eyes. Each page demands that the next be read. With Cold Eyes, Romina Wilcox has established herself as a world class player in the mystery genre.

Seat Belt Please?

The cover speaks from the start, but wow what a ride! There should really be a little seat belt to tie you down through some of the sharp turns and curves. I can very honestly say that there are very few books that I CAN NOT PUT DOWN and this was one.
Brilliant and calculating!

Sue Grafton met Michael Crichton

Cold Eyes a is thriller set in the high-tech corporation in Silicon Valley.

The plot is something that could be out of today's paper. And the fact that Romina Wilcox tied it to many actual events, made the story even more realistic. The explosion and crashed of the dot-com, corporate espionage, the real estate boom and bust, etc. Folks it actually happened. As I read Cold Eyes, I was re-living the life when the Internet industry was booming in Silicon Valley. It's amazing how she incorporates such events and it flowed flawlessly.

The characters in Cold Eyes are not to be ignored. The heroin, Joanne Gravitz, is a career woman who seems to have it all. She has strength and vulnerability which made her so believable. She is a career woman, but capable of compassion and love. She fell for a handsome doctor (don't we all) and subtly initiated the first contact. One might wonder how a beautiful, intelligent woman could not find love that easily. In today generation, there is growing trend that women marrying late is natural of a modern woman. Many fall into this category, and many can relate to Joanne. And yes, a woman can hold such technical job as computer security.

The villain is as equally interesting as the heroin. Tilton is a brilliant man, but emotionally corrupt. Sometimes you wonder if he is human. The way Wilcox weave his character is a resounding testament that the bar for a variety of skills, both socially and personally gets higher in order to succeed in today's tough business climate. Being competent is not enough as other judge your competencies base on your social skill. How many Tilton can you find in a given corporation? Sadly, the answer to that is "many!" How many Stephan Smythe-young, not much education but can easily crack codes; how many Carrie Lapore--someone who is blind by her own materialism.

Cold Eyes is a story driven by the characters. Each persona resembles many real people in today's generation.

Has someone uncovered Marianne Dobbins secret of 25 years?

Prominent Stanford researcher, Dr. Brett Russell, is found dead the morning he is to present his latest medical breakthrough in San Jose California. His wife Marianne is devastated, but most importantly, fearful...for she has a secret. The night of Russell's murder, his laptop where his confidential research files reside was stolen. One would think, why murder Dr. Russell, his wife is the one that holds the secret. Revenge? Maybe. But then, Marianne was kidnapped and the FBI believes the hacking and the murder are connected. This is where the beautiful and talented Joanne came in the picture. With the use of her software called Cold Eyes, she can pin point the activities of the hacker / murdere. But..... He seems always ahead of the cat and mouse game. Someone close to her? Maybe. A geeky coworker who has his own secret. Perhaps, in order to marry Russell's daughter, Lisa. A visionary Frank Tilton? Maybe, but for what? Onether suspect, a surgeon who once saved her life from a fatal accident. He is a stunning surgeon from Stanford where Marianne works. What is the relationship among these people?

Romina's story kept me at the edge of my sit. Very complex, but very enjoyable. I look forward for more from this Queen of cyber-Thriller.
