Great Confidence Booster!
I bought myself this book for Christmas and read it entirely yesterday. It's full of both humor and useful information for a less-confident, beginning knitter like me. I love the basic "recipes" for socks, scarves and hats and the way Stephanie breaks down fundamental concepts so that even I (probably) can try my hand at using those recipes to meet my needs for pattern design. As a fundamental guide, it's not all that useful, but I wasn't looking for that. I've already got a few of those. I was looking for a fun read with good information and this book is definitely it. I highly recommend it for knitters who are looking for a little nudge to try something a little more difficult than they've done in the past. It's a great motivator!

My Husband Loved It!
While I was meandering through the local
yarn shop
checking out the yarn, my husband found himself in the book section. He started reading this book and eventually bought it for me. It's great (and so is he)! I thought I was the only one with a stash. Her section on gauge is priceless --- and true!

Stephanie Pearl McPhee's Knitting Rules
I love this book and I have learned several things. I enjoy reading Stephanie Pearl McPhee's book and love her "low" key views.
Funny and useful
This is a very humorous book with helpful guidelines for making various items, most notably socks. I have now made several pairs of socks without a pattern. Even if you are an expert knitter you will enjoy Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's sense of humor. Highly recommended!

A favorite of my knitting book collection
I am an avid advanced beginner self-taught knitter and have collected 25 or so
knitting books
. This one ranks up there on the top! Ms. Pearl-McPhee has lots of practical advice, is inspiring, and most of all hilarious. She really gets to the essence of what knitting's all about - not "knit 1, pearl 1" but passion, good sense and lots of humor.
