Everyone Should Read This Book

Great historical perspective on how golf emerged in the United States during the early 1900's. I found the Aristocratic golf society very interesting, the attitude towards professionals is fascinating. If you liked this book, you need to read Grand Slam by the same author.

5 stars for research, not entertainment

If not for this book, my history on golf would have stopped with Bobby Jones and his infamous 1930 grand slam year. I enjoyed this book for the research that went into it and not quite the entertainment side of it. For me, the highest level of sports writing begins and ends with Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand. This book is not quite up there with Seabiscuit but nevertheless a facinating read.

Great Read

Frost has done a wonderful job explaining how golf exploded in the U. S. from its infancy that all started with the U. S. Open at the Country Club in Brookline, MA. If you like golf history, you will love this one.

If you like golf - read this story

I saw the movie and had to buy the book. It is well written and very enjoyable to read. It is on my read-again book shelf.

Historical Narrative in the spirit of Seabiscuit or Jeff or Michael Shaara's works. Excellent story interwoven with the characters, times, and actions that surrounded Brookline. I didn't know anything about the characters or the outcome so it made a great read.
