usable

the usual bizarre symantec product, it works after a fashion, and if you must be able to make a restoration of an entire drive, then this is probably your best deal. If you just want to backup some files, you may want to look elsewhere

Do not try to migrate from OLDER VERSION to this one.

Ghost 12 software cannot read older versions of Ghost "backup data" so do not remove your older versions, and do not try to migrate over to Ghost 12. You run the risk of having to restore your older software just so you can recover from your older backup. Too much trouble - so if you have an old Ghost 2003, just keep it on your old machine. Furthermore, just use the Ghost 12 "restores" only on your new machine, running "backups" created by Ghosts 12 from your Vista operating system.

Keep them seperate, for now, until Symantec fixes the bugs.

Bad News
--------
I have opened a trouble ticket with NORTON SYMANTEC CO. about this issue. As for me, I was very disappointed about the bug. But, I continue to have faith in their products. Of course, some of the reviews has made me a bit cautious. (My god, can the reviews be bad.) Ok, I agree, bugs like these should have been fixed BEFORE release. It should not have to be field tested and pain inflicted onto customers. So, you are right to be upset (those above who gave SYMANTEC less than 4-star).

I am taking one star away, because they should have al least WARNED me about backward incompatible issues BEFORE sale of the software.

Good News
---------
I have ghost 2003 on my old machine and it has been a life saver. I have often found "free" downloaded third party software comes with bugs. And as often, I have had to reach down into Norton Ghosts - and restore my operating system. Wonderful to have such a software feature. Thanks to Norton Ghosts. The 2003 version was a really nice product. So, I give the system the 4 star rating - because I hope that the bugs in ghost 12 will eventually be resolved.

Specially the DISASTER RECOVERY module, which allows me to boot from disk and restore the entire operating system - when the system crashes. Oh my God, what a life saver that was. I can tell you countless stories when Peter Norton has saved my life, in the past. Even with his UNDELETE programs from good old DOS days. So, lets give him a break, ok?

As a matter of fact, what ever happened to the Undelete? Anyway ...

I have Ghost 12 on my new Vista OS machine, and for the few times in use - the backup seemed to work fine. My expectation is that Peter Norton must WAKE-UP and fix these bugs, and eventually in the LIVE UPDATE, a patch will appear and all my machines will be operating in very happy mode.

If you are reading this far ... be happy and the world will follow you.

Nobody from prior reviews suggested using Microsoft backup. Ha, ha, ha.
