Haunting

This book affected me deeply. I live within close proximity of a town called Comanche, and for months after I read the book, I'd be forced to look away from the sign telling how many miles away the community is because I couldn't bear to look at the word. I had my son read the book, and I asked him what he thought about it. He replied, "I don't want to talk about it."

The work is thoroughly researched and the conflict between the Comanche tribe and those who want them removed from the plains of Texas is a heartbreaking tale. Of course, the tale revolves around Cynthia Parker and her family, both native American and Anglo, and she is portrayed in a way that will break your heart.

Ironically, one of my ancestors was on a mission with the US Army under the command of McKenzie and actually saw Quanah Parker in a battle in Palo Duro Canyon.

This is a powerful story; read it and see how you respond. I'd like to know!

Great Book

This is the best book I have ever read. I would recommend it to anyone. It makes you LOVE the Commanche indians!!!! You won't think so at first but keep reading.

You must read this book!

I cried, I was angry and I hurt for these people. I love this book. I bought it about 15 yrs ago for an American History class in College. I had a choice of four books to read. I had no idea what this book was about...little did I know the intensity of this book. This may be a little book, but it packs quite a wallop! I am Cherokee, but after reading this book I hold a deep respect and awe for the Comanche people. Cynthia Ann Parker was the bravest young girl and woman I have ever read about. My heart broke and I cried so much, when reading of her 'rescue' from her loved Comanche way of life. Please read this book! You will smile and cry, sometimes at the same time. Much praise to Lucia St Clair Robson for her magnificent true-story telling.

Magical

I am from Argentina and I had to read this book to pass a subject. (I am studying at university to become an English teacher). At first, I thought the book was boring, too long, too many characters, and, of course, a huge amount of difficult words to understand. Besides, it was not the only book that we were reading, so it was very hard to keep on with it. By reading the novel, getting to know the characters, and understanding the events and the Comanche's life, I got it: it was magical... It caught me completely... I just could't stop reading it. For those who haven't read it, and are not sure to do it: READ IT... it is a piece of art.

Exploration

Ride the Wind is the best book I have ever encounterd and one of the few books that I enjoyed. Tears shed from my eyes, furie grew inside of me,happiness and exightment grew around me as I grew closer to the characters in the novel. Cynthia had so many things occur to her in her wild life as she was captured by Comanche and became one of the people as she formed a family with them. If you love a great novel and true story READ RIDE THE WIND!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is an amazing story I know everyone will enjoy.
