A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

I read fiction and nonfiction pretty regularly and found this book to be a rare find. With so much happening in our country today - war in the Middle East, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and all the Washington back biting, I needed something to let me know not to lose hope in the country's future. This book did it in spades. It is eloquently written. Like a great pianist, the author may have missed a couple of notes, but the overall effect is so sweeping and profound that it makes you ponder in untold ways about our country. I agree with the notion that the author makes that "to dismiss prayer in the life of the country is a fool's errand." He has made that clear page after page. I was so impressed with this book that I have ordered several copies on this website. I intend to have them ready to give as presents to my family and friends. Everyone needs a little bit of inspiration now and then, and One Nation Under God did it for me. It will for anyone who picks up a copy of this book too.

"A VALENTINE TO AMERICA'S SPIRITUAL FAITH"

Coincidentally, I had just finished One Nation Under God when I read a great review of the book in my local newspaper, which called it "a valentine to America's spiritual faith." I could not agree more. This is a book that has touched me deeply. It is full of the prayers and prayer lives of all osrts of people. Never did I believe that I could interlay my own spirituality with figures from America's past. It was a wonderful personal journey for me. I just cannot say enough good things about this book. To the author, I just want to say - thanks for the valentine! I loved it!

Incredible Breadth - FIVE STARS!

Beofre writing a review, I wanted to read the reviews of others. While I appreciate concerns that anyone could have regarding the way a particular individual or religion is portrayed, I must say that "One Nation Under God" blew me away. Like so many of the reviewers, I found the experience to be almost life changing. It gave me pause to measure my own spiritual life against those of America's past. It gave me comfort in more fully understanding the heritage of America when it comes to spirituality. It gave me pride in what the promise of prayer can mean to the future of the country. I am not a "Bible thumper." Rather, I am someone who tries to lead a good and decent life. While I do not attend church as regularly as I should, I think this book has given me enough spiritual push to get me back to the pews. I really think that this is a heck of a book and recommend it HIGHLY!

One Nation Under God

This book reminds us our nation was formed by those that made God their principal guide. It also reminds us to be thankful for our many blessings. It has something for everyone who values God in their lives and in their country.

This Book is a Winner

Today is Sunday. The talk shows are filled with the latest problems in today's world, and I am about to get my weekly dose of indigestion. As always, it is my weekly period for reflection. With all the dire stuff on the horizon, I have to tell you that I found incredible comfort in reading One Nation Under God. The book (and I listened to the audio book on spring break) really gives solace to those who see the state of the country at a dismal crossroads. This extraordinary work brings to life the spiritual valves and outelts that our country has turned to, even in its darkest hours. I could not have been more impressed with its scope, depth of scholarship, and impartiality. Page after page tells the story of how America has come to cope with the challenges of every kind - both the countrey as a whole and the individuals who have been a part of the country. This is a terrific book from all vantage points. The author was masterful in what he put together. I only hope that he will provde the country with some kind of encore.
