Addresses an Important and difficult topic.

I have 2 children - a girl (2) who loves everyone and a boy (4) who is scared of everyone. How do I teach her to be cautious without having to loose her charm? How do I teach him to be friendly without being cautious, too? This book addresses it all. Sister Bear has one personality, Brother has the other. In the end, brother is tempted by a stranger and Sister steps in. It addresses stranger danger better than any other source I have seen. I really feel this is a must-have book for every parent and child.

The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers

This is a great book for teaching young children about strangers. My son is 5 and really enjoys reading this book over and over again. The content is informative, but not scary. The comparison momma bear makes between strangers and a barrel of apples is so simple and accurate. The simplicity allows the children to understand you never know what is on the inside of an apple or a stranger. A visual key kids are likely to remember.

Wonderful!

The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.

Trouble with Strangers is one of those books. Talking to kids about strangers is necessary, but a little scary. No one wants to turn their kids into antisocial hermits, but at the same time, it's an absolute must to teach kids that it's not okay to just talk to anyone. This book takes on the issue and makes it comfortable but thoroughly explained. A great place to start!

What about the rest of the strangers?

The book does teach children about what to do with strangers, but the view of strangers is not appropriate. They are all darkened men. A more developmentally-appropriate, anti-bias book would include strangers of all races, class, personality, and gender.
